that's a killer tone he has.
here's a great little interactive look:
http://www.treyanastasio.com/treysrig/

the big part of his distorted tone is running an Ibanez tube screamer INTO an ibanez tube screamer.

about 1:15 into this track you can a little lick that gives you the jist.

and who can forget John Scofield's KILLER guitar tone?
http://www.johnscofield.com/scoaudio/hottentotmeta.ram
here's his rig:
http://www.jazzguitar.be/guitar_rig_john_scofield.html
all you need to know is that "John Scofield uses Dunlop Delrin 2mm picks"

Charlie Hunter's extensive use of the Rotosphere
http://www.charliehunter.com/mp3/vol1/C ... 102297.mp3
(8:25 into the track) oh yeah keep in mind he's also playing the bass at the same time too :)

John Sykes!! Let me post this clip again.

Also think "Still Of The Night" by Whitesnake. Possibly the beefiest guitar tone ever.

There are two schools of thought on John's tone. One is that he plugged his Black LP custom into a Jose Arredondo modded Marshall. The other is that he used his Bradshaw rig in the studio.

Santana was playing that double cutaway Yamaha model in the 70's and 80's that looked sort of like a combination of a LP ans a SG. Can't remember the name of it.

Of course every PRS Santana played was a one of a kind with all the perks and upgrades.
See more info on the red one:

He also owns many other guitars and uses them in recordings as needed.

Wholly molly!!! cyanogen, you sure you didn't forget any more? ;)

Well done CY! That's the stuff.

Oh, I think you're right about the Carvin. I don't know why I thought that. Anyone want a Carvin anyway? That PRS one though is cool. Maybe I will try to get a sample of Santana's actual guitar if I can find someone who knows him. I know in a 6 degrees way there is someone who does. Or I can just sample one just like it (yourself or someone like you).

I posted this in the other thread in the effects section, but in case you missed it:

I finally posted some pics from the Stones concert. Here, check it out:

Image

That was taken backstage on a little camera phone. We didn't even ask to see it, this was just how it was when we walked up. (if we had asked to see it the whole plug would be showing...)

Image

This was right behind that ProTools rig... and there was many more guitars back there as well! The opening act (Joss Stone) was playing in front of a transparent curtain where we could see out but people couldn't see in so we wandered around the stage before the Stones went on. Pretty cool to check out the gear that close.

I tend to get along well with the keyboard players of bands. Chuck is very nice and was really excited about Philharmonik, SampleTank and Sonik Synth. That was really great to hear for me. Felt proud and lucky I guess.

This is sort of a side benefit of what we do that makes it extra fun.

I hoped you liked my little photo gallery. :)

This is a very cool thread. Lots of good info and pics in here. Keep it coming!

How about a simple Steely Dan type sound.
Something like this:

How about a preset like the solo in the Black Crowes version of Hard to Handle? I couldn't find the right clip online though. :(

hi,

an "uneasy" one :

Holdsworth in "City Nights"

followed by another one :

still Holdsworth in "Back To the Beginning" (Bruford's Feels Good To Me)

and

Zappa in "Drowning Witch" (from Ship Arriving Too Late...), "Watermelon In Easter Hay" & "Keep It Greasey" from Joe's Garage

and I really would love to have this killer sustained lead sound used by Robert Fripp when soloing upon his frippertronics or like in "God Save The King"...

and so many others, Sco, Hunter, Buchanan, Fiuczynski, Michael Landau (with Colaiuta), crazy sounds à la Belew, a good sound for bottleneck/slide à la Ry Cooder, Jeff Beck in "Good Bye Pork Pie Hat" (DSM in full use ?) or in recent featurings like Ursus Minor (so let's also name Jef Lee Johnson), Lane, etc.

Tool did a cover of Led Zeppelin's No Quarter for their live album Salival. It's got some gorgeous tones in it.

I can't find anywhere that will let you preview it though :(
