I just got the Kirk Hunter ones (Emerald) and its amazing. So much choice and the sound is excellent. You wont beat it for the price with any other library right now for quantity and quality. I also have miroslav and it might also be right for you depending on what sound you want.

You can listen to my music on my web site (click my sig) to see what I do with GPO.

I think it is great if you just take the trouble to get to know how to use it. Every library has it's thing you will have to learn. Clasical orchestration is not the same as mixing loops together and unfortunately will take lots of effort more.

About dongles - this is my latest hate and I refuse to buy anything again with dongles - i.e. miroslaf crp.

I was "tricked" into getting the dongle because I wanted SAM truestrike. What a freaking crap player that Halion is. The dongle is not only a problem, but it can be authorised for use on a specif port only. So do not think it means portability of your library by putting in the dongle in another machine. No sir, you have to make sure that you plug the dongle into the same USB on the same machine everytime. You plug it in once in the wrong place and it comes up with a new instalation screen and WIPE out everything that was previously authorised. So, one small mistake of putting into the wrong port will cause you another hour wasted to re-authorise everything.

Did I mention that the player iteself is crppp?

Another thing. The Hallion dongle was successfull in getting me my first fatal crash on Sonar. I have my computer with Sonar for 18 months now as stable as a pig's house. Never any crashes. Now it crash every day - and only on projects where I use the Hallion player. Is this coincedence?

OK.

Rant over.

If it's anything like the KH solo strings, the sound ought to be top-rate. How's the control layout for it? I like how GPO is very programming-based to be able to contour a performance.

And what sampler do you run it in? Emerald appears to be a Gigastudio 2.5 library. It should load in Kontakt okay, but you never know: sometimes little conversion issues pop up. (check that first, G&L!)

This is true, but they did ban my IP address. It has an amazingly positive community over at NS because Gary Garritan will personally PM to warn you off if you're not quite 'happy clappy' and Gary Garritan, or his minions, rule it with a rod of iron, deleting posts which they disagree with.
Having said that, I'd thorougly recommend it, and I wish I hadn't been stupid enough to get myself bannned.

We have a very popular and thriving forum, but minions ruling with a rod of iron? What planet have you been too?

I realize you're saddened about being banned from NS. I cannot ban people at NS not even from my own subforum. If you were banned by the admins from Northernsounds it was most likely a result of breaking the rules and improper behavior. Rather than spread misinformation in another forum, please take your grievances with the administrators at Northern Sounds.

Only Gary, it has to be said, was civil enough to reply to me. NS never replied to a single question about why I was banned, or ever answered any enquries about my status while I was suspended.
I'm not going to have a fight here about it.

This is weird. In case of Cubase the dongle will work on all machines, regardless of ports or whatsoever.
Just a while ago I updated 13 SX dongles to SX 3 using my net machine while they're used to run Cubase on completely different machines.

I thought so too, but that seem to be how the thing works. I think I saw complaints in the esoundz forum of people who had similar problems when installing miroslaf.

Kirk has posted in the NorthernSounds forum that a Kontakt 2 native version will be available in a couple of weeks.

Miroslav Philharmonik installs fine, even if you have Cubase installed (like I do). during the initial installation of Philharmonik, there are clear instructions about when to remove any USB keys and when to plug them back in. This is for the Synchrosoft component of the installation, and to manage Windows auto-detection. The instructions are very clear, and if you follow them directly the installation will be very smooth, as it should be.

for what it's worth, i scored a little cartoon with GPO:

I use GPO to mix with electronic instrument, mostly the brass and percussion. Back when I bought it, there was no other orchestral library with as much quality content for this price, the closest one was more than double the price of GPO, so it was a no brainer then. But I too was put off by the required modwheel use to control the sound, after months of using it I still can't record anything worth a damn using that thechnique, very unintuitive for me and in the host I use, editing modwheel automation is a pain in the neck.

Thankfully, Garritan released X-custom in which I can make use of velocity to control the sound so I use those for now, and I'm thinking of getting a controler with aftertouch and map aftertouch to modwheel and see if that would make it easier for me.

Also, the content is locked to the player and I sometime whish for more sound modulation options than the player provide, so wave format with regular mapping would have been better for me, but I understand I sometime want to use it for purpose it wasn't designed for. I never regret buying it though, when you use it for it's intended purpose it does sound extremely good.

I really like the modwheel feature. Sure, it's not the way most other apps work, but it is the most logical and sensible way to control volume if you don't have aftertouch. And if you do have aftertouch you can just send that on cc7. What's the problem?

Cool 8)

It would be interesting to see how the music sits with the animation.
Anti-aliasing is for "synthmonk%ys".
