Well, since other fanboys are out in full humourless force today, I figure it'd be a good time for my turn as a humourless :| Audio Damage fanboy.

For any one so inclined to like these kinds of things, Chris from AD announced over here at OSX Audio that their next plugin (before the phaser) will be a clone of the Moog 907A Fixed Filter Bank (8-band formant filter +hi/lo). Only $29. You can read more about it over at Chris's blog.

For the "looks like gear" GUI fans: (Ooh! Ahh!)

Now for my humourless fanboy bit, a little preemptive manoeuvre: Yeah, no demos. Get over it. If you won't spend your money on this without a demo, such is life, and luckily you saved a bit of cash, too. You don't need any of these things, and no one is forcing you to buy them. There are alternatives out there, even free ones.

There was even a thread started a while ago just for bitching about such things. I highly recommend posting a complaint there.

Cheers,
Steve

seems like a new cool contraption from audiodamage.
there's a weak point in the Force.

Thanks for the heads up. Might as well just send AD the money now.... ;)

Starting to feel that way myself. Four of their plugins fit squarely in to my 'ten most used plugins' list lately. One of the guys at OSXA suggested a NI-style subscription. I'm thinking that's not such a bad idea.

I'm buying it...I love AD plugins!
I could see this replacing quite a few filters I have now...just like dubstation did with my delays.

I guess $29 isn't a big risk, but why no demo? Not bitching, just perplexed. But he has proven himself before. Fuzz+ is a must have for general sonic mayhem (no pun). :)

I did much the same, deleted maybe twenty delays I just didn't think were up to snuff afterwards.

They've said in the past it had something to do with reducing exposure to warez, presumably since the copy protection isn't particularly heavy-handed (serial #). They only don't do demos for the cheaper effects, both Ronin and the Mayhem suite have demos.

I'd also guess that it reduces site bandwidth costs significantly. And they offer your money back if you aren't satisfied. I can vouch for that, the first time I bought Discord, I was using Win98 which was incompatible with their GUI library. Chris had responded to support, figured out the problem and refunded my money in a matter of hours. That's the kind of support I like, and needless to say I bought Discord again once I was on WinXP.

Since it was just released, figured I'd bump this thread.

Here's a quick demo a did running white noise through the filter and automating bands.

907a demo clip

Since there's no demo for the software, this might give you some idea what it sounds like, and ways it can be used. I really like its sound.

It's worth noting that the signal is affected from the outset, even with bands set at max, and that some signal remains even with bands set to min, since attenuation only goes down to -64dB.

Post

how does it compare to filterscape, volcano and others?

Post

Nothing like either of them really, since it is a collection of 10 fixed filters. The only controls are volume. No built-in modulation.

Filterscape is two state variable filters with 4-band EQ with modulation and state morphing up the wazoo. Q6 is a 6-band EQ with same mod/morph options. Volcano is 2 multimode filters with env follower and 2 LFOs.

Hey Shamann, hate to sound ungrateful, but could you perhaps do a minute or so demo with some drumloops and pads and stuff? I'm very very interested, just don't have money to waste
