Yeah I know, it's a wicked track...

Do Pendulum use the same kick/snare for everything though? :)

Post

Cool track... But I personally prefer the ones on the "Pendulum - Hold Your Colour" album..
It makes me soo HYPER HYPER!!
A shame that almost no people here in Denmark are into DnB..

If you like the track...check out the video to it http://www.theprodigy.nl/
Orbitutle.....where in Denmark are you ?

I find pendulum wow you at first with their mastery of production, but under all of that is really some throw away music. That said Back to You, the intro is amazinG

Apparently not...

Nah jsut kidding they get a lot of flac for that I think, but I think its just their 'sound' . I however, do use the same kick/snare for everything :hihi:

I'm not too keen on the drums on this track, they are obviously programmed with that machine gun snare on the roll. Shames as their drums are usually spot on, genius producers.

cool find!

IIRC this remix is on the second cd of the Prodigy singles collection.

I agree.. lots of cheese, but then a few great tracks like 'Still Grey' as well. At least they don't take themselves too seriously (a bit of a rarity in dnb).

Post

Yeah, I've been totally in love with this remix since a few DJ's played it at this years Koneisto. I think in this kind of music you can't separate the production from the 'composition' or 'substance' of the music. IMO Pendulum make killer dnb. Check out the track Another Planet, totally out there.

Just came from seeing Prodigy live btw. Fun!

Post

yea i love this track, too - though it's hella-repetitive

"Another Planet" is total cheese, imo as i think 90% of pendulum's tracks are, but tracks like "The Terminal", "Voyager", "Back to you" (even though i dont think that one was produced very well), and "Masochist" totally make up for it. I'd be more than proud to have some tracks like that under my belt.

Typically though they come up with the most absolute cheap, cheesey melodies that a child could come up with, imo.

Post

Personally I couldn't care less about the cheese - I hear it so much in that genre anyways :) (and no, I haven't really followed dnb in a while anymore, as the same phenomenon of 99% being recycled cliche porridge has happened as does in any genre)

For me, it's one of the highlights of this year :) Heard the album for the first time just a couple of days ago and it went to my personal list of top albums I've heard in ages.

:?: I umm.. not sure what you're saying? Pendulum's drums have always been obviously mechanical. Slam had that same machine gun drum roll. They haven't changed their formula since Vault. Their drums are just punch, no character or soul. The theory behind it works, but not the practice.

Still, it must suck to be Pendulum even though they're just ruling the mainstream(clownstep :hihi:) side of DnB. I can't imagine what it's like going through life having someone pop up every 5 seconds to say YOU GUYS FELL OFF AFTER THE VAULT / VOYAGER / MASOCHIST DOOD OMFG WOBBLE GET SOME NEW DRUM KITS

That being said I absolutely hate them. Their candy coated pop DnB just ain't my thing... I think that douche bag rip-off Sub Focus is doing much better things... Juno and Scarecrow =   His drums are punchy but still retain character, and he's similar in the fact he's making pop-type DnB BUT I think he's pretty bad-ass

Although their newer stuff absolutely shames everything they did in 03/04, I still can't stand the shit they make. Talented guys though. Rob's a genius, hand-crafting the Pendulum sound... now everyone's ripping them off. Still, I'm glad there around, they're putting out a much more accessible DnB for everyone, although whether or not that's a good thing or not is debatable... don't get the neuro-nerds started

I think Calyx's album wins 2005 vs Hold Your Colour... I still think his tracks are the shit after months and months of rinsing. Can you say that for Bacteria remix? :hihi:

what's up with that video? i mean, music videos suck but this one perticularly bizarre

i don't know... this pendulum guy, his music is alright, if not almost as good as so many other dnb producers. But here in toronto, it seems like people who even hated drum n bass for years or people who used to listen to it but then stopped are now really into pendulum. it's like he brought drum n bass back in north america. what messed about that is that i find his music to be nowhere near as good some of the more recent tracks but a lot of the oldschool producers (roni size, hype, goldie etc...) these guys are putting out some awesome stuff right now.

to me, some pendulum tracks just sound like bad imitations of panacea tracks.

and i know it isn't drum n bass and all but that hardcore remix of panacea lawless on kniteforce is a killer track.
