Ummm... I think I'm coming into this conversation late. :-) Just disregard me.

I am amazed at the fact that I have just posted to every topic in a random and nuttty fashion, only to end up in the topic that got me started on useless posts in the first place....life is wierd, and who wants to live forver?

Not every topic...just those that came up as I logged into the site...I aint nuts, just curious as to the fall out from such a thing as posting like crazy to all these topics......

I played with orion, but it didn't really move me.
TRied Fruity at a friends, who is very proficient with it, again it didn't do it for me.
Haven't tried storm so I can't say anything really.
Reason I also disliked initially, until my Bro left his mac at my house & I played with it a few times, just for the crack.
One day it started to make sense to me, I 'grok'd' the workflow - so I bought it, just in time for reason 3, which addressed a couple of issues.
I understand why people often don't initially like these soft studios, sometimes it just takes a bit of playing with until they click - i'd dissed reason for so long back when I was a VST user, now it's my main tool.

er... - what's your point, dude?
it runs on an old version of java. i'm sure many have experienced problems with java on the internet alone.

now imagine that in an overpriced piece of software.

Java is an object-orientated programming language similar to C++ but unlike C++ it is compiled on the fly. Therefor you need to have the 'java virtual machine' (the Java compiler) installed on your computer in order to be able to run applications which are programmed in Java and Storm is indeed partly programmed in Java.

Is it possible that you confuse Java with Javascript? (which is a scripting language that has got nothing to do with Java despite its name)

oh and just for the record: your 'it runs on an old version of Java' makes not the slightest sense as the compiler is of course always backwards-compatible...

and just to add: it's almost funny that you blame the compiler for buggy applications which get compiled by it...

:) Hello Bones. I do enjoy your music and your synths. I also think you are being a little too defensive about Orion. I always have to endure criticism
from hardware guys because I preach the Reason gospel and the Tracktion commandments. I also drop hits on Acid Pro. I also believe that I could compose film music with my three main programs as easily as Lunatique without the expense of GPO or some other orchestral sound set. BT has composed both on computer and with a live orchestra. That really is saying something and defines what I would call 'pro'. You are doing music professionally and are touring and putting your music out there all with Orion and your synth creations. What has this guy done? What have I done?!
Keep on truckin'!! Remember, opinions vary and all assholes fart!! :hihi:
May the passionate fire of Music mold your soul into the image of the Master Musician.

yes, I own V2 (which also works as a vsti b.t.w.) - but in which way is this relevant regarding Java? :?

well, version 3 sucks - when loading it up as a rewire device, it usually craps the host out. it's screen redraw rate is pathetic, making it difficult to compose anything in the software. Storm is a slow memory hog, which i assumed was an issue with java.

in the past i installed a later j2re in an attempt to make it run better, and deleted the old. storm asked me to reinstall the old.

I didn't know Orion used Java, but that might explain why it felt sluggish in places - it didn't help that I found the interface awkward too. I know from experience at work that apps written in Java are usually slower that Win32 apps - regardless of whether I'm using the Sun or the Microsoft VM.

The four hosts in the thread's title are the four I tested before plumping for FL - I've certainly got no regrets, and the upcoming update looks awesome.

Interesting to note that CM have just reviewed Platinum, and only given it 7/10. The current version of FL got 9/10, and it will be interesting to see whether they can justify not giving FL6 full marks.
