, but I'm practically convinced that, with the exception of a really good free DAW (though there are decent ones) or something esoteric like Gigastudio, it's pretty much possible to do every software job in music for free now, and do it very well indeed.

Oh, no guilt here either. I just can't get over the fact that these devs slave over these things and release them for free. Amazing.

It's most likely been mentioned, but H.G fortune has the free version of the sts-17. While I can't say it is free I guess, his STS 21 is even better.
