[never mind]

hehe... just like most magic - they make you concentrate on one thing so you don't notice the other... i am actually proud of myself for figuring these out. gotta say i am fecking drunk. half a bottle of jim beam w/ coke (pepsi, actually)...
i immediately figured out how the cards could work. i didn't double check, because finding one loop hole was enough not to bother any further... :D

the first one with the symbols, i didn't bother to understand mathematically - what is obvious if you keep hitting and rehitting the buttons, is that the symbols next to each number do not remain constant (much like the card trick, i suppose), so it's very easy for them to make it work each time... :shrug:

i am drunk and would probably qualify as math-dyslexic if i bothered to get myself checked. oh my, this was fun. yay yay yay... ;)

i'd qualify as math dyslexic whether i was drunk or not, though. jens, where in germany do you reside, actually... hm, maybe i'll pm you one of these days. don't usually do that kind of thing, too much intimacy and i don't want to bother/bug anyone and stuff.... :wink:

I really liked this one.
The other tricks I already knew, but I enjoyed Darth's 20 questions.

yay, so proud of myself again... i may be wrong, but it just seems so intuitive, no matter what they say.

am i kind of right that if you stay put, chances are 33%, and if you change your mind they are 50%?

would only make sense, because if you change your mind, you essentially change the setup - i.e. you do not choose from one out of three, but from one out of two. and it is very clear, that the one has odds of a third, and the other of a half...

but this is all just erm... my mind rambling... yay. :lol:

well to me it's very counter-intuitive! even though the mathematical argument obviously holds water

I think this is wrong but I'm too drunk to solve it right now (I don't want to make a mistake)

even if you stay with your original choice you actively choose if you're being asked for the second time

door1 -> 33%

door2 -> 33%

door3 -> 33%

you choose door1 and door 2 is opened and there's a goat

now you have a new choice:

wanna stay with your original choice = door1

wanna change your choice = door3

and your chances are:

door1=50%

door3=50%

thus whatever you choose your chances are 50%

er... I think :oops:

This is an old saw. The maths works out that it is correct to change, but only if you know that the host always opens a door to show a goat.
It caused quite a stir in the maths community in the 50s or 60s when it happened. People bet their reputations one way or the other.
