I am creating a custom VST plugin for my final year project at the University of Birmingham, EEE department. I'd appreciate some input as to what users of this forum would like to see in a VST plugin. My preference is to create something that would aid vinyl sampling.....

A plugin allowing to record sample loops auto-synced on the fly would be great, mostly if it could add chained plugins...
if we could store the recorded samples in a temporary memory it would be greater, and the many abilities to mangle (slice, reorganize, stretch...) the sound would be awesome.
A little like a very improved angstrolooper or tweakbench yoink ;
That woudl be something i'd use a lot !

Ok on the real this is would be kinda fly:
AN ADVANCED FREQUENCY DOMAIN EDITING PLUGIN.
1. Removing/Replacing sound from the domain space AND REPLACING IT WITH RESYNTHESIZED audio. This resythisis engine can be comprised of a system capable of "filling holes" of non existing or erased frequencies while simelantiously mixing (with level control) back wet to dry signal. It could also employe either pitching (Up or Down) audio close to the lossy frequency, time expansion or convolution (for realism).
2. Reconstruction/Remixing songs original instruments and timbre by simplifing the process of splitting audio into desired frequencies AND MORE IMPORTANTLY make the split dynamically tailor to the selected timbre frequency ranges. The abitlity to place midi triggers in the domain (that would be tricky).. To be used in a sequencer after the dynamic freq split is applyed.
This IMO open a whole new world of processing.. For an predicesor example look here:

I hope my explination wasnt too confusing...

Here are some of my random ideas;
software RIAA etc curves so that turntable can be used without a pre-amp.
Pre-recording, so that when you press a button you capture the last, say, 10 secs of audio that occured before you pressed the button. Saves having to go back and play the piece agian.
BPM detection.
indepedant and linked speed/pitch/tempo controls for recorded audio.
noise reduction
A control to add funkiness

You can take a step in this direction by using the L.S.R. VST plug-in by Devine Machine -
here, PC only. The little fella can record one or two bars of audio on the fly, synchronised, to be then played back or saved to disk. There's a free version available, plus a 'larger' paid-for version.
Bye,
Steve
P.S. Hedphoniks: good luck with your project!
