Hi all,
Anybody here know of any app that can add a direct x or VST effect to the directx audio chain..
So if i play something in iTunes for instance, it can be sent through T-Racks before it gets out!
Frank.

Hmm, not really... I think there's some kind of VST-plugin available for Winamp that maybe could work (I *think* there is such a thing, remember hearing summat like that). What are you going to use it for exactly?

I have heard of virtual audio cables (kinda like Maple or MidiYoke, but for audio rather than MIDI). Perhaps something like that routed into a host like EXT could do it. Here is one version that's reasonably-priced.

yeah, i've been playing with VAC, but I don't think it can 'intercept' the directx subsystem and get between audio apps (that don't let you choose sound output - like itunes!) and the final directx output..
re: Winamp - yep, that could probably route sound into VAC and then from VAC into a DSP Host.. but I'm struggling with iTunes in this case

ITunes is probably using the "default audio output". You can change that to be VAC - but then it'll be VAC for all apps that use the default, which is probably not what you want.hitchhiker wrote:yeah, i've been playing with VAC, but I don't think it can 'intercept' the directx subsystem and get between audio apps (that don't let you choose sound output - like itunes!) and the final directx output..

I'm using an Audigy with the kx project drivers - I can re-route "Windows" audio to an ASIO channel then pass it into FLStudio for processing / listening - also means I can record anything playing on my pc. I guess most ASIO capable sound cards will have similar routing .
Just been playing around splitting incoming audio from my cd player to a couple of channels with Peak Controllers in - 1 filtered high, the other low. Then linked the Peak Controllers up to FL's new Chrome generator to get stuff bouncing around the screen in time with the cd!

Yep - I managed to change iTunes to use VAC, via the Windows control panel!!? However everything is choppy and messed up, this is a pentium3 laptop - was going to be used in a restaurant as an iTunes behind-bar player.. Balanced sound is essential, so i was going to use the FM suite limiter / compressor in T-Racks.
I'll keep looking, thanks for all your help..

Ok,
So the last piece of the puzzle is now a DIRECTX (NON-ASIO) compatible VSTi Host - i've linked iTunes to VAC, I've got t-racks as a VSTi in SpinAudio's free VSTi host. But I can't get the link from VAC to the VSTi host. I've even installed generic ASIO drivers for my soundcard..
once again, thanks for all your help..
