Which track was supposedly in sync with the Jupiter bit from 2001? Was that Echoes?

Several years ago some friends were round at my place tripping.

I was not and kept them entertained.

The video was playing 2001, the stereo was playing "Animals" and the subtitles were scrambled....

You should have seen their faces as the monkeys were hitting the bones and yet Pigs were grunting...hehe

Amazingley it all seemed to go together.

DSOTM is the classic, but for me I still think "Wish you were Here" was the best.

Which Floyd?

There's the Syd Barrett Floyd. Then there's the Post-Syd Barrett Floyd. Then there's the 'Cid Floyd (the studio LP part of Ummagumma). Then there's the Prog Epic Floyd (Atom Heart Mother to Meddle). Then there's the Mature/Commercially Viable Floyd (Dark Side/Wish You Were Here). And then, IMHO, there's the Past It Floyd (Animals and onward).

I really think Wish You Were Here was their last great album. Everything after that reeked of commercial influence and self-conscious theatrics.

i see what you mean... but...

even if it's quite different, the Waters Floyd period (Animals to Final Cut) is still a very good era.

after that, it's definitely dead.

The thing is they were always a very theatrical and visual band.

Imagine "Alans Psychedelic Breakfast" live. A mock up kitchen on stage, a cooker frying bacon and cornflakes being poured into a bowl....
Then a motorbike gets ridden around the stage, you can guess what track that was.

All very trippy stuff.

I've loved them since "Wish you were here". And oddly enough I even like some fairly late albums. "Momentary lapse" f.e. I think is one of their best. "Animals" is at the absolute top for me, closely followed by "Wish you were here".

There's a lot of emotions because of stuff that happened around me tied in with PF's albums (soundtrack of our lives) though, so I'm not sure how much is based on any kind of objective standpoint. The same thing happens with Genesis.

I agree with you strongly, those are the two albums I listen to the most! Although one really has to distinguish between David Gilmour's present-day Floyd and the real deal. We know the new Floyd is just entertainment, or at best a means for Gilmour to carry on playing guitar solos!

But Momentary and Delicate Sound of Thunder represent a really exciting time for me and he did a good job with those songs. Personally, I'll take the live version of Comfortably Numb over the original any day. The huge drums! The two-part harmony throughout! That SOLO!!!

You folks wouldn't beee-lieve just how many times I had to buy the WYWH album, man!

Four times!

The first one was played regularly in a beat-up walkman during my college years and later went to that great tape heaven up in the sky in the line of duty after an errant pinch roller strangled it. The other three occasions? People I used to hang out with flicked 'em. Each time. Thrice!

Love that album. Love all of them: with syd, post-syd, with waters, post-waters. Love their solo albums also. animals, WYWH, Wall, final Cut, Atom Heart Mother [which medical instrument inspired the newspaper headline that inspired the album's title? and how many kids did she have, eh?], DSOTM all make me go... "Why the bloody heck wasn't I born in the 60s?"

That actually happened to me with Pop Will Eat Itself's "Cure for Sanity". I bought it 3 times and it was stolen 3 times. Ah, the 90's...

yeah, "the 90s"... i was around then too! in fact, that's when i went to college! Last millennium! Imagine telling that to a pretty girl: "Hi. You know i went to college in the last millennium?" a stellar pick-up line if there ever was one. heh heh.

man i haven't heard meddle in years...brings back lots of memories...i used to run a crappy rick copy thru my old moog sonic VI filter with a down slope ramp lfo and an analog delay, and NAIL the bass solo part of "one of these days"....and learning the organ intro to "pigs"....and the guitar part to "astronomy domine" (sp?)
