Hi Friends. I please need your help. I wish to transform my male voice to a believable and natural sounding female voice in some of my audio/video work. Perhaps I do not know how to finesse enough, but pitchshifting alone does not seem to cut it for me.

I've only come across AV Voice Changer, which many folk seem not pleased by it, and Dubmaster, which I cannot find out how to download the demo (links are empty-- maybe they are out of business?). Any ideas?-- even if how I can do it with Soundforge 8 or Magix Music Studio? I thought another specialty app might be more appropriate? Thanks!

Has pitch and formant control. Play with the 'Stretch Formant' slider to adjust the voice from male to female and vice versa.

Massive amounts of estrogen will do the job, short of that's it's probably not possible (not a *natural* sounding voice at least).

Thank you all very much for your kind responses. I am not ready to try estrogen yet. I did download the "Choir Boy" demo and played with it some. Praise to the developer-- it was much fun and easy to use. Alas, I could not quite get there as I needed for this particular project, but for others it would be marvelous.

Something that confounds me though is that aren't some of these text-to-speech apps impressive with how they can simulate a female voice? Only, are there any that offer any control of the nuances?

Another idea came to me... I wonder if I worked the EQ to cut the lower end of the voice spectrum substantially and boost up the higher end harmonics of that? Hmmmm...

Really, if I could get my voice close to that of a digital female simulation, that would be close enough for a cigar. Anyway, thanks again.

Personally, I've never heard anything (hardware or software) pull that off in a truly convincing way.

That said, I'm reasonably happy with the "female" backing vocal on a project I am putting together for an old friend (and brilliant songwriter) Gil Neal.

I used Akai DeccaBuddy: http://www.gilbertneal.net/gn/drinkthebeastwithme.mp3

You might want to try Antares Throat in combination with a pitch shifter, maybe -5 semitones or so. I've found using throat on its own doesn't do gender changing, but if you mix in some pitch shifting you can get a decent gender change. They have a 10 day trial so I'd give it a whirl... maybe you can get what you want done without buying anything.

Thank you so much, guys.

Mick,... I really did enjoy your song. I believe other folks ought to check it out. You have a nice voice. i did find your female backup a bit on the subtle side, so you had it well blended. I have certain short segments that will need to stand alone and shine on their own, so it's tough to guage.

Jason, I thank you, too. I wonder how in the world you discovered that one. Antares (which is my astrological heart star... Scorpio), sure sounds promising. I was only frightened by the $400 price tag at first. Perhaps I can try out the demo. Maybe if it performs as it proclaims, I could eat rice cakes for a while (tee-he).
