does anyone know whether it's possible in Ableton Live 5 to eg send the rootnote of a chordspace chord to vsti a, the bassnote to vsti b, etc?

Post

Set up each Plug on a seperate midi channel, then configure the 'Ch' (Channel column) field with the channel you've assigned to the relevant Plug - i.e. Set the 7th/6th 'Ch' field to midi channel 1, say if you have a violin plug on midi channel-1, 3rd/4th to 'Ch' 3 if you have a cello on midi channel-2 etc.

Hope this helps,
Cheers,
Deric.

Post

Err make that 'Ch' 2 if the second instrument is on channel-2 !

Cheers,
Deric.

:dog: thanks!

for plug-ins which can't be setup to only respond to a certain midi channel though, would it be possible to use energyXT to workaround? (meaning: does EnergyXT as a plug-in have multiple midi-outs?)

Post

I think you just need to:

1. Load the Plugs you want.

2. Create one midi tracks for each Plug.

3. Assign the Plugs to the tracks you want them on.

4. Assign the midi channel you want each midi track to use.

6. Use these channel numbers in ChordSpace.

Cheers,
Deric.

doesn't work...are you using Ableton Live?
it seems like Live sums all midi events to channel 1 (or omni).
i think your no. 3 is the problem, that just doesn't seem possible in Live. (gonna check the manual again now).
thanks for your help!

OK - try with the manual - it often helps me!

If you don't get it sorted (and no other posters have responded) then I'll fire up Live and try it (I use Cubase SX as a preference).

Cheers,
Deric.
Ps. If you get it working after going through the manual it would be worth posting what you had to do - every bit helps etc!

Colonel, I can't make it work in Live 5.
Live bundles up the output from ChordSpace into one midi channel. Give me a day or so and I'll produce a midi filter.

that'd be awesome!
ps: my music has gotten at least 140% better since i've discovered your wonderful plug-in.
i expect another 40% increase once i've discovered where to find minor dominant and subdominant chords... :scared:

The dominant chords are those labled 7. The dominants borrowed from a minor context are those with a b13 and the +7 (altered) ones.
The sub-dominants take the lydian dominant mode and are the 7's with a #11.

180% ?

thanks again!

i got confused by your earlier comment:
"If you want to use the natural minor, treat the vi scale degree as the tonic"
so basically in a minor context the tonic moves from I to vi but the minor dominants and subdominants at least stay in their "chord-cluster"...and i'll just use the chords that are highlighted on your "Modal interchange" page.

Good tip CF!

edit: Doh! Now i get...wasn't my idea though

errr... so let me get this straight.

It seems like the groupings of hexagons are based on 1 chord in a major scale, it's minor interchange substitutes, and chords for which you can substitute the original assuming you're playing a II-V-I progression, and assuming all chords besides II-V-I are substitutes for II, V, or I?

A more detailed readme might be nice. :)

Fun toy tho, glad you released a version for Sonar users.
