Well, I got my submission in, so now it was time to listen to the other submitted tracks (and feel inadequate in the presence of such greatness  )

A general introductory comment first, though. The rules for this month's ordeal included the following sentences - "We want your masterpiece to be spooky, creepy, ominous, scary, violent, or terrifying! No happy little dance-floor filling mashup numbers, okay?" With this in mind, here are some reviews, in no particular order.

Wopelka - Walking Deadmen
Suitably weird and disjointed. I like the fact that you have been able to get some melodic elements in this, rather than making this a general soundscape/sound effect type of track.

Mystahr - Scary ZombionSphere
Nice build from the introduction, and the later part of the track is certainly violent, harsh and jarring. I like it.

WattTyler - Frankenbarney Must Die
Nice mashup, but not particularly scary or creepy. You have made good use of the samples, without altering them much. A little more sonic manipulation may have given you something a little more original.

Barnadine - I don't think these are my legs...
The last quarter of this track is my favourite, the piano and strings give a slightly plaintive, and eerie feel. The earlier part of the track, while very well constructed didn't convey quite as much of that sense of "Halloween".

Farlukar - Stitched
The sawing sound is menacingly done, and there is a brooding sense of malevolence embedded in this track. Great.

Hanglow Skank - Pick and Mix
You have done a great job with the vocals in this, and this is a great, "sweet" track - but I "sweet" isn't the theme for this month. Otherwise, this is fantastically well done.

Knockman - FRANKINnonSENSE
I like the eerie tunefulness of this track. You have done a great job of using the samples to create an excellent track that almost sounds as though it could have been created from "scratch" rather than recycled material. Hats off!

You - Drop Dead
Great mashup indeed. Built on a great concept, and I love the added vocal. Excellent production, as usual. It would be an interesting challenge to try and identify all of the samples in the track. But is this track creepy, ominous etc???

Fucanay - Monster Romp
This is a happy little dance-floor filling mashup number. Extremely well done, but did you read the submission rules?

rachmiel - fLown
Nicely spooky. The treatment you have given to the main vocal is very effective. A relatively simple, but atmospheric track.

Beardedone - Grave Fruit
Despite all your concerns about your abilities, you have done a great job here. I like the use of the sax, and this has a great, slightly threatening "urban jungle" ambience to it.

bitshift - Covering UTM's Covers
Love the eerie windy sounds, and the percussion fits nicely. Overall an interesting track with nice movement throughout. Great job.

Scoops - knarF
Short and spooky. Loved the slowed down voice sounds, but the introductory footsteps didn't add much to the track overall.

emdot_ambient - Cries And Whispers
Great track with excellent use of the samples. Creates a distinct, "dark streets, late at night" feel, although perhaps a little more lonesome than creepy. But I could listen to this repeatedly and find something new in there every time.

Patrick9 - Death March
I love what you have achieved with this - this has a rhythmic build to it that creates structure, but without overpowering the threatening nature of the sounds you have used. I love what you did with the vocal sample at the end. Great job.

At least the small number of entries, and the 1 minute time limit makes reviewing a little easier this month :D
Time is an illusion - lunchtime doubly so.

Thanks! It's the sax solo that makes it sound lonely. Sax can be so mournful, and . . . it's a SOLO afterall! But I like your "dark streets, late at night" comment. Exactly the impression I got as I worked on it.

Thanks again :D

Thanks Slartibartfast! :D I dunno about my so called abilities: If you saw me work you might wonder as I do.

Cheers for the review Slartibartfast!

I assumed that this competition was due to Halloween this month, and sweets play a part , unless I missed a trick ? :hihi:

Thanks... but I got to give knockman credit for the smooth steady sawing action :D

Beardedone -- Grave Fruit: Impressive work. I kind see this one as a companion piece to my work. The sax solo links them, but your piece is more ominous and dangerous. My track might fit well after this, kind of the aftermath to the mayhem offered here. Very complex mix, wonderful selection of sound bits. Excellent work!

Slartibartfast -- Sweet Screams: This is like a sonic trip through a fright house. Interesting how the tension in this can be built so well in so short a time . . . the end of the track seems unnaturally cut off though?
