When i started this thread i said i feel pity for everyone who payed full price for the Neuron and being the generous kind that even includes you Drool. Although communication with you is one hell of an annoying experience i hope you have at least as much fun playing with your Neuron toy as you have pissing of everybody else in this thread.
:-)

Why thank you.

That would be that context you keep changing, yes?
Once the context was explained, you continued to argue, because after all, you'll never back down.
Once I pointed out that the context was not adequately explained, you continued to argue, because after all, you'll never back down.

Me, I really would have liked a little bit of tenderness
Maybe a word, maybe a smile, maybe some happiness,

Ben maybe you didn't pay BT a thing, but I'd be willing to bet the farm that you gave him a free copy of Cameleon and he threw you a quote as thanks. It seems like he does that for many places that he wants free stuff from. That doesn't mean he doesn't like it, but I think you left some of the story out ;)

Keep in mind I like Cameleon, but I am waiting till some of sounds come close to the capabilities of my Kawai K5000 (I own two). I don't know enough technical stuff to know why I love the K5000 more, but I just seem to get more interesting changing envelopes...

Yes. That's the one!

I will reply to this one more thing. This is a perfect example to the type of linguistic and semantic distortion you engage in to 'prove' your point.
Of course it is dearie. You go on and reply.
By saying that something doesn't "need" to be quantified, the meaning is that all relevant information is provided, and that additional detail is not necessary.
In saying that something doesnt 'need' to be quantified, you are not recording a unilateral truth.

You are merely reporting your opinion on whether it does not need quantifaction...
Your opinion on the matter does not make it factual.

Whatever the 'meaning' of the statement, its content is still nothing more than opinion.
To claim that YOU required it may be a true statement, however, that is changing the meaning somewhat.
Which meaning? The meaning of the sentence in isolation? Or do you mean the sentence as a reflection of your opinion?

I disagree with your opinion.
Stating that something isn't necessary because it is provided, or implied by context, is not the same thing as insisting that it is objectively necessary because you simply refuse to understand what is being said.
Saying that something is provided or implied by context is not the same thing as something actually being provided or implied by context.

You having a belief does not make it factual.

I asked you to quantify the details of your original statement.

The statement was
You won't get huge numbers of voices on a Kyma either
, remember?

Most people would have had no problem with that ("oh, about XX voices") funnily enough. I wonder why you do.

Because its not in your 'context' ?

A comparitive quantification ("oh, about 20-40% more voices than SynthZ doing a similar thing") would have sufficed, at that point.

But again, you dont actually want to deal with real factual information here.

Whatever.

How insecure you must be that asking you to quantify something more explicitly makes you so aggressive.
Words don't have meanings lurking behind them
Of course they do.
- their meaning is in their use,
I disagree.
and you are trying to win this little point with the same kind of silly technicality that you love to win arguments with.
You're the guy trying to 'win' something, not me.

But I agree for audio/visual applications, Max is really leading the way. I'd say for controller development, it is, too. But those things have nothing to do with sound design exclusively, they are about a/v and controllers.
I don't think I disagree with your opinion about the nueron but from my perspective you're making too much of the Cycling74 marketing strategy and not enough of the capabilities of Max/MSP. No amount of marketing strategy is going to bamboozle every Sonic Arts institute if it wasn't up to the job. It's very versatile for sound design so I don't understand why you're playing this down. All the apps you quote are very versatile for sonic design and are used extensively by people experimenting with sound but the neuron isn't one of them.

The neuron was sold on it's unique sound creating capability. In this thread this has been quoted by others as one of its strengths. I'm pointing out that compared to other apps the neuron is limited and expensive. I think the select market that you refer to is undoubtably the very wealthy (and slightly gullible IMO) rather than those who are experimenting with sound. Perhaps I'm being unfair, but it seems to me like a rich mans play-thing.

I'm more excited by and interested in musicians using inexpensive apps like EXT and all the incredible freeware out there than being told by some people here how innovative the £4000 neuron is. Necessity is (often) the mother of invention I believe.

Err... Okay. We agree that Ben says he didn't pay for BT's service...
but I'd be willing to bet the farm that you gave him a free copy of Cameleon and he threw you a quote as thanks.
...but wouldn't that constitute a payment for a service? After all, there was a time in human history when a man could buy a wife for a camel or two...

oh come on guys.... who would say something nice about software (or something else) if he doesn't like it (even if he's been given it for free)

I think we can all agree that it would feel stupid to say "I like it" if you actually don't

That really depends on what the voices are doing and how many DSP cards you have, surely?
Yeah. With seven cards, I get a lot of polyphony, even for complex things. Next month, my Kyma gets maxed out, so I shouldn't have too many worries. Still, Kyma is like any other software modular in that you might not get the same amount of polyphony you would expect from an optimised synth performing the same tasks.

Mind you, they ALL have more polyphony than our modulars...
Scot.. did I ever tell you how much I hate you and how much I'd love to be in your shoes? :x

I totally agree with you. I just think Ben should charactarize the relationship properly (unless I am mistaken, feel free to correct me Ben).

Im pretty sure Ben has said in the past that BT bought it, then emailed Camel out of the blue.
