effects signal path?

Hi. Is there a resource on the internet that can teach me the correct effects path to use on my individual instruments? meaning, where can i learn in what path to use my effects? I typically use a compressor, eq, reverb, distortion,etc... but i am not sure in what order i should apply these effects. Any advice would be appreciated. thanks
