Hi,
I am looking for a high quality filter VST capable of LP,BP and HP filtering with variable rolloff and distortion. However, I also want something reasonably efficient and compact which rules out Quad Frohmage and Antares. TC Filtrator almost fits the bill but does not offer BP mode which is pretty annoying. Can anybody reccomend anything else?

Thanks for your help!

filtrator is a killer, one of my fav filters, you can chain two of them with hp/lp to get a bp but still if you want to modulate it, it'll be a big mess ....

otherwise, i saw on the news page that basement arts have updated their frantic filter, i don't have it but you can try the demo

there's the volcano filter as well but there seems to be some discord about its quality ....

by the way what's wrong with the antares or quad fromage??? don't they offer enough possibilities for you? though antares has no builty in disto i think

I'll give the Frantiv FIlter a try! The Antares and Quad Frohmage are very good but they just seem overly complex if you just want a simple single filter. Shame they don't make a pared down version without all of the multiple filters and flashy animated graphics etc.

What would be ideal is something like the filter unit from Kontakt but as a standalone VST.

Quadfrohmage isn't really complex. It's 4 filters with different routings, 4 buttons to enable/disable the filters, note that the mix knobs are simply 'sends' from the filter to the plugin output - e.g. when having filters in series you'd move the mix knob of all filters but the last one of the chain to zero, but leave the power knobs of each filter activated. Thats the only thing that really can lead to confusion I recon.

Then you additionally have frohmage stuff to modulate all of the knobs with, working the same as in other frohmage synths/fx plugins (select the knob you want to modulate, then tweak the LFO's or whatever rocks your boat for that particular knob).

try psp nitro. i don´t know frantic but i think nitro sounds much better compared to volcano.

psp nitro does everything u ask for and more I would say.

Definately check out volcano. It's input gain can be used to vary the distortion.

Cheers!

Vampire! Still alpha and not available to the public but if you're nice to the dev you might get it.
This is the best filter plugin I heard. Better than Nitro, Filter and Volcano. Just my personal opinion though.

Yeah, the sound examples from vampire sure sound nice and the GUI is rather pretty too. Waiting eagerly for it! :hyper:

Unfortunately I've not been nice to the dev. :dog: :P

I was nice to the devs, but still didn't get it. But, it would seem based on their forum that they are pretty busy with lots of things, so I don't think it's personal.

No matter, I'd like to see/hear it in its final state at this point. They have lots of really cool looking projects in early stages, I hope they choose to release them at some point.

Ah, Jackyll and Hyde. I'll bet it's pretty good. The ZynaddsubFX port is great, and so's the Transponator.

You know when it's going to be out fritzman?

Topaz did one recently that may fit the bill, with a free version to ry too, less features or something. Nice filter tho.

Hi robenestobenz,

no, unfortunately I've got no info. I will ask him again.
