Many years ago I gad an Alessi Quadreverb which had as one of it's effects a really nice resonator that could be tuned, maybe some of you remember this.

Does anyone know of a VST that can create the same effect, preferably free..?

Or does anyone know if it can be made with Synthedit..?

Any help appreciated.

Cheers

:)

At the risk of being a broken record... Macomate88 has up to 88 tunable resonators which can also be emphasized or played via midi.

No worries. Aren't records meant to be broken?
perception: the stuff reality is made of.

To alleviate some of autloc's brokenrecordness, Macomate88 (I was going to say it anyway, but he beat me to it). Also check out his Mukoco for some odd resonant fun.

Some others:
12th Floor Chromadelay - had three resonators and was tuned to semitones, several octaves up and down. Sadly it seems to have gone missing in action, so might take some heavy duty googling to find.

Oli Larkin's Polycomb and Dronebox - not free though, 25 GBP. Has some free similar ones (used to anyway) Gatecomb and Stepcomb. These are all made with SE, so it can be done with it.

Ohm Force's Ohmygod - available only via magazine or to registered Ohm users. Also a function in Quadfrohmage, probably several other big filtery things, but all cost a good lot.

Several others that come to mind but don't quite match your exact description:
Ioplong's Resolator
NDC Random Pattern Delay
Cycling 74's Pluggo Jr. has one called Resonation. Comes in a whole suite of Pluggos for free.

Both Ableton Live and Audiomulch have native effects that can do this. (Resonators and 5Combs respectively I think)

Thanks for the replies folks. Just grabbed the Macomate88 - that looks cool, will try it out later.

Googling now for the others now, however, all links for Chromadelay seem dead. Does anyone have a working link..?

That pack looks good shamann but according the their website it's for XP only... I use 98 (I know, I know, but believe me, I have valid reasons).
Anyway, I have downloaded it and will try it 'cause sometimes XP plugs do actually work with older windoze. Here's hoping... :)

Thanks again for the replies.

Too bad they aren't much similar things on mac platform at a low price as much as i know ( still on os9 actually,...i'm a dinosaur !)

-i suppose though that a good delay line ( like Psp 42 for instance ) can do that jod if you choose the appropriate bandwith of delay time ( i'd roughly say between 5.0 to 30.0 millisecond ) and an appropriate amount of feedback....

by experience, i would recommand take a look in depth on what tonalities your compositions are based on, this could be really helful for the most effective use a resonator...

i experienced at the present time that for me, FINALLY the most and intensively effective use of resonnators ( as insert effect as well as a send/return one ) is to tune them to the fundamental note of a major scale...

( i assume that idealistically, it should be a acoustically PURE major scale rather than a well tempered one )

...because it will be naturally compatble with the most steps of your harmonies as long as you keep your composition inside that single scale

You may try this ,... i warmly recommand it to anyone of you !

Yeah, that's exactly what I want it for - tuning to a track.

A few years ago I used the Alessi on an acoustic guitar track, fingerpicking with a constant A note throught. The resonator was tuned to A and it sounded bloody FANTASTIC..! Of course, if it's overdone it sounds shit.

But now I want to get the same effect for a similar track - finger-picked acoustic guitar with a pedal note.

Doesnt steinberg GRM Tools have a good resonator? not free though..

The only thing about GRM "comb filter"is that it is a bit uselessly complicated to be programmed on that purpose ( No reference with scale notes for instance ) ....but it can sound wonderfully !

dronebox and polycomb were built to do this exactly. I wanted to use the GRM comb filters to make resonant chords but found it very difficult (thinking in frequencies and fine tuning the knobs).

Very exactly indeed, yes !

...this is a honest reason to regret,. beeing synthedi-based, t it won't ever be ported to mac in where there isn't something that rivals with your dronebox actually, i guess.. !

in fact i tried to make the new version with MaxMSP and pluggo so that it could be cross platform. I may still do it in the future. Unfortunately at the moment MaxMSP doesn't sound as good as synthedit and makes a lot of things difficult.
