At one time Reason 1 was a serious contender for me but Version 1 was so ordinary, especially in terms of effects, that there is just no way I was willing to invest any energy in it. Bu tthat never seemed to stop it from selling like crazy.TeeLangSun wrote:Malstrom makes sounds I haven't heard from any other piece of software. The Scream Distortion is in my opinion better than any software I've yet witnessed. Reason's RV-7000 Reverb was better than any software reverb I'd heard until recently, there are some reverbs that I believe can compete against it, but Reason is able to do it with ridiculously low CPU usage.
By the time Version 2 came around, ORION was barely recognisable from what it had been when I first tried Reason and by then it was too late for them. I've seen plenty of comments about how much the sound quality has improved but with so many great free and cheap plugins around I can see no compelling reason to jump through the Prop's hoops so that I can use their stupid product and record vocals for our stuff. It makes Reaosn teh antithesis of simplicity and, in case you haven't noticed, keeping things simple is very important to me when it comes to getting things done.
Except that he's going over to Reason [which works on several levels].tony tony chopper wrote:but then you're bound to be an ORION evangelist for your whole life

nah... I'm an eXT junkie now (as a host it's getting close to perfect).BONES wrote:Except that he's going over to Reason [which works on several levels].tony tony chopper wrote:but then you're bound to be an ORION evangelist for your whole life

But I do find this thread to be quite a bit of twisted fun.

I still can't quite get into eXT somehow. At one time I was really excited and bought it and thought it was great but after playing around for a while I just can't get into it. It somehow feels too fiddly for me, not straight-forward enough.sdv wrote:nah... I'm an eXT junkie now (as a host it's getting close to perfect).
I have no doubt that when Jorgen finishes the Linux port I will get a whole lot more serious about it, because it is probably just a matter of me making some mental leap into its way of doing things. But for now its just a nice, ocassional distraction for me when I get bored with ORION.

Well, one does have to fiddle with hooking up all the various routings, and therein lies it's paradigm curve. But it really is a blast once it all clicks mentally (which took a considerable amount of time for me as I was not a very modular thinker).BONES wrote:I still can't quite get into eXT somehow.sdv wrote:nah... The sequencer however is getting more polished which makes it easier to get something happening right away for those steeped in other apps.

That's another problem for me - it does seem to be getting more like a spread sheet music app in that department. I still prefer playing around with MIDI Parts as patterns and trigerring them from a simple sequence or from my controller. For live work, being able to trigger complex parts from a single key press leaves me a lot more focus for entertaining the crowd without making it seem like we are playing to a backing tape. It will even allow us a degree of improvisation on stage that we do not currently have with ORION, even without the "Live Mode" stuff. Its for live work that I am interested in eXT but I don't want to have to maintain two different app's for live and studio work.sdv wrote:The sequencer however is getting more polished which makes it easier to get something happening right away for those steeped in other apps.

After going through first 10 or so pages of thread my only conclusion is: Bones, you're a shortsighted, closeminded asshole in much the same way the OP is. I'm sure you see yourself as the righteous defender of the underdog, but actually, you're much the same thing as the MPC clergy in hip-hop communities etc.
You appear to sincerely beleive that everyone NEEDS YOUR working habbits and that they would suit everyone, in other words -- that your's is the only right way. Does this last bit remind you of something? I'm pretty sure at least once in life you were at the other side of that kind of stick.
A lot of people had shown, with very decent arguments, how their choice is an educated one, and what specifically they dislike with your object of adoration. Also, being that devoted to a piece of software is kinda disturbing.
