Ditch my powercore, or add something to it?

So, I have this powercore element with just the stock plugins, and I basically never use it. Once in a while I'll use the EQSat if I'm running out of headroom, and I actually like the tubey-thingy on some stuff, but there's nothing else I really use.

One option is to add some stuff -- like the Oxford eq, or even the Oxford eq/dynamics/exciter bundle. The Oxford EQ alone is like $500, and the bundle is more like a grand.

Or I could do the MKII upgrade, which would give me a ton of extra power, plus Character, Filtroid, Dynamic EQ, and Chorus-Delay. That upgrade is about $500.

Alternatively, I could ditch it, and buy the native plugins I've been itching for.

Any thoughts?

Ok, so you hardly ever use it, but you might spend another $500-$1,000 on it and then, uh, hardly ever use it some more? Is that close to the picture? You know what you really want to do. Scratch the itch, I say!

Yeah, that's pretty much the picture. I guess what I can't decide is whether I'd be throwing good money after bad, or if I can get something out of the money I've already spent by spending some more.

What's a second-hand poco element even go for? With all the MKII upgrades, there must be a lot of them floating around . . .

The mk1 stock plugins aren't too hot.
Check out the vss3, dvr2, nonlin2 reverb plugins. They mean shelling out more, yes... they always do though, they're in none of the packages. And your poco will be able to run enough of these reverbs for a good mix.

HI

I think the Oxford EQ is a cracking plug - if your seriously into eq this is a killer.

The filtroid is really nothing special - you could get any number of (more versatile - imo) filters before this one - Quad-frohmage/Nitro/Antares filter/frantic/Volcano are some worth checking out.

You could get the Virus synth - a bloody nice synth it is as well - this is probably the best payback as you can run several instances and get a good amount of polyphony going - getting a similar amount of instances/poly/voices going in an equivalent vsti would probably use up most of your current computers cpu: so this is a good investment IF you use synths.

It is easy to forget that the Poco is there - I quite often find myself not using mine - simply as it comes up under a seperate menu in my host.

Re-sale value is not going to be good now that new and more powerfull models are out.

Hmm. Reckon it comes down to this: is the Oxford stuff worth the huge ticket? I'm pretty confident that I don't need the extra horsepower and bonus plugs of the MKII, and really I feel (finally, at last) set in the reverb department. My better eqs and compressors are all pretty colorful -- UAD pultec, URS N, UAD LA2A, 1176, Fairchild. I use masterq a fair bit, and glissEQ sometimes, but really don't love anything in my plugin folder for high-end boost or precision submix buss tinkering in the mids.

But the price of these sony plugs! Damn. Could get hydratone, the whole elemental audio line, a bunch more voxengo plugins, whatever, and still be saving money over the sony bundle.

Anybody want to say the Oxford stuff is still worth it?

Umm, you probably don't want to shop in this price range, but the PLParEQ4 is very, very high precision. Haven't you followed this thread: http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=108936

Oh, yes, it's in the *FREE* price range!

alternatively couldnt you just look around ebay for another element if you needed more power for cheap?

oh yeah the oxford stuff (like the eq) have demos if you werent quite aware of that...

for instance: http://www.tcelectronic.com/OxfordEQ

you have to fill out a form though...

and no im not a powercore user.. though if you want to give me your old one I can :P

I'd personally ask myself what I would do in regards to my financial situation. Do you really have the money/time to buy the powercore, and then keep updating it with all these expensive plug-ins, and not only that, but risk buying them just to find you won't use them very often?

all i would say is if you ahvent tried the vss3 you are not set in the reverb department

absolutely murders everything else (IMHO)

but the resale on an element will be very low - you would probably be better upgrading to the two and selling that
I believe every thread should devolve into character attacks and witch-burning. It really helps the discussion.
