Can't seem to find this because I don't know what it's called. Any help is appreciated.
I have acoustic drums recorded with multiple mics but can't get the sound the band wants on the kick.
Is there a VST that I can put on the kick drum track that will let me use the recorded kick to trigger a sampled kick, where the sampled kick is the one heard in place of the recorded one?
Thanks,
chim

There is a sound replacement plugin called drumagog. Also, some hosts can do related tasks (slicing, generating MIDI tracks, m-points etc.) so depending on your host it may already be possible, there are also some audio to midi plugins listed here.

What kind of kick sound do they want, and what kind do you have? There's a lot of tricks short of drum replacement that you could be using as well. For instance if they want a kick with some really low end thump that still has some attack try copying one of the kick direct mics to a new track and put an amp sim over it (experiment with the settings) to blend back into the mix. That's just one I like using, but if you have a halfway decent drum recording, there's a lot you can do with just EQ and compression alone. Sometimes getting there can be the problem though.
I'm sorry this post wasn't about techno.

no probs
there is a way of extracting the groove of a drum loop in energyXT, but cannot remember how to do it (its a tad complex). Its explained in the manual

Thanks funky. The recorded sound is a good low end thump but they want a sound including the plastic smack of the beater...essentially a live type sound that I can get out of the subs and horns when doing FOH, but I've got 9 songs to deal with here so using a sample will be the easiest and quickest.
The tools suggested so far will do nicely. Thanks for the responses.

If you ever want to go the 'hardware' route, old AKAI MPC samplers are awesome for what you want to do. And the total faschizzmanizzle is Yamaha's RM50. You could spend a month on that thing to get the right bass drum - but when you do, it's ROCK solid!
