I've read a lot about making some sort of press release for when you submit music to places. MusicSubmit recommends it also. However, I don't play live nor do I have anything new coming out anytime soon. What would I write about? Where can I read examples of good press releases?

No, the thing is called a "press release". I do not even know exactly what it is.

Press kit by any chance? That'd mean copies of press coverage you recieved before. Music reviews, gig coverage etc.
What you need to show to the label in the material you send them is that you're marketable and that your records will sell. Therefore the press coverage, and you should put your own market research into the cover letter.. e.g. your music caters to the female 25-35 year old ballade fans, you've sold albums mostly to this or that area and so forth.

They say I should include this with my bio. Unfortunately I have nothing interesting to write. As I said, I don't play live and have no new material coming out anytime soon. I'm just an 18 year old freshman in college who loves writing music. I don't know if that will grab anyone's attention.

It doesn't seem as if too many people here have done press releases, which would indicate they really aren't that important. Going out of the music theme, most press releases go something like this:
"Corporation X announces the promotion of Mr.So-and-so to the level of Senior Vice President In Charge of Gouging the Client..." Newspapers then decide if they want to print them.
I could be all wrong, but I really think a press release is not all that essential to what your are trying to do at this time. The bio part is what you should focus on.

i guess i know what a "press release" is...
it is nothing more, nothing less..
but a brief, compact description,
for general public+press news..
like say "The Rolling Stone"
or your local Newspaper would like
to write something about you..etc..
so, for that purpose,
people offer brief "press releases"
so, that those newspaper-guys,
save time, by using exactly this text.
example:
Your daily newspaper,
uses your very own custom made press release:
"zircon is a 25 year old musician,
he started playing guitar at age 6.
for 10 years he`s making music
almost every day.
his styles are really mind-blowing.
he is really a promising creative soul,
you can get more information by checking out
his cool website: www.zircon.com"

- what's your approach to production? (do you do anything unique with your approach?)... ie a big one in a lot of magazines is how certain producers are strictly analog people, or some use cheap stompboxes for their sound, etc..
- what kind of gear are you using(not too specific but the general gist of that)
things like that. you are telling a story about you in the present more than anything and what you're up to. do you have any great anecdotes about what led you into the current project you're on?
not only are you telling a story but you want to sell yourself. what do you have that others dont? how are you unique ( ie what sets you apart from the thousands of producers releasing stuff every week?)

Thanks for the advice, guys. I think I am beginning to get an idea of what to write. Any more advice would be appreciated because I feel I have very little to write about. I don't have any exciting projects going on, or any new tracks, I'm not playing at any live shows, not releasing any mix albums.. I don't even have many album sales (total maybe 70-75ish) because I have no route of promotion.
