Well that's just it, I don't plan to be an enthusiast. I'm fully aware that this instrument isn't exactly something you'll wrap your head around in a few years, and i'm more than willing to stick it out. A funny story...When I was twelve I had been wanting to learn piano, that's when I was getting into music. Well, I got a keyboard, and funny thing is (and bad I might add) is that my first keyboard came from buying it off of just some guy who happened to be selling one. It was a optimus concertmate 990 from radioshack! Ever since then I have not taken one lesson, I have only read one book on chords really. I taught myself to play, I just paracticed and practiced and practiced everyyyyyday for years on in. I may not know how easily read music, but I can play and I can read it (with a little bit of patience because i'm still not used to reading the music fully). I know there is much more to violin than just pressing keys like on a piano, I know you have to have your posture correct, you have to have the fingering correct and all. The reason I spoke of piano is just to show as an exampole that I am ready and willing to dish it out so I can learn and play. Thanks for the advice too, i'm probably just going to go with a cheap one at first to really get basics down and learn some. As someone said, it will be making the bad noise rather than the violin when I start!

so would it be correct to assume that an electric violin (ala Laurie Anderson and Nash the Slash, et al) would be present just as great a challenge as an acoustic violin if not greater?

i get pupils to buy a cello, bow, case if they were beginners.. (usually from a local music store)

but these guys at shar know their stuff.. and i know they ship all over the place with no problems. i bet they do a all in one package

violin ,case and bow for about 350$ or so

I just went to an orchestra concert at my college. Everyone was dressed up in halloween costumes... I've never seen so many hot, scantaly clad girls all playing strings at once. It was beautiful.

oh, erm, the music was, uh, good too....

Thats only 3, kinda hot string players. This was more like 15-20 very hot, very provocativly dressed string players.

i havent 'banged' an 18 or 52 tear old....currently she is about 4 years younger than me.

Are there any violinists around?
