I like the "best" lists actually. Sometimes I do pick up a synth or two here or there that I've never heard of, or maybe never thought of in that context. I only get angry when it seems like some WaReZ kiddy looking for a download list from P2P though.

Truely, if you didn't care, you'd skip the thread. But people like to act like children on here for some reason... I don't see what's so bad with sharing your opinion, even if the subject is rehashed once or more a week anyway.

... just what the hell does that mean?

it means.. you learn discpline through waxing a lot of old cars, then go into a karate tournament and kick a lot of hiney with the backdrop of 80s theme music!

That way, when someone comes along asking what the best free synth for Trance is, we can just give'em a link and have done. No annoyance, no hazing.

But then, what would become of all of the traffic here?

For my part, I try to be nice to newbies, as I still consider myself to be one, when it comes to synth programming at least.
You've earned a great deal of respect from me already. :D

I think that'd be a fantastic idea. Compile a list of best VST's for certain uses (based on popular opinion, of course), then divide the list by freeware and payware.
The problem derives from the forum-based format-
a better way to do it may be to have voting thingies on the entries for the various effects/instruments/etc- (1 to 5, 5 best)
that way automatic polls could be generated based on how many people have voted for x effect and what rating they gave it-
this could be stuck on a page separate to the forums on kvr, and could be automatically generated and updated, every day-
I'm happy to help, being a programmer (though I don't know squat, really).

I always thought it was a surfing term, as in striping off the old wax from your board (or skis, too?).

Sometimes I think the negative and nasty reactions are because someone says something derogatory (and that's putting it nicely) about a synth or something and some of those who own said synth or something take it as a personal attack on their choice. It's never stated that way by those making the original remarks, but there are some here whose anger management is barely existent and cannot respond without turning up the heat -- and making it personal.

Then there are those who simply cannot see any other point of view, tend toward rigid thinking and simply cannot fathom or accept what they don't agree with. Their posts tend to be up against the wall affairs in which disagreement is not acceptable or tolerated. A few seem to assume everyone who is new or asks a question in a "suspicious" manner is running cracked software and deserves to be flamed out of the gate.

Finally, there are some here who seem to view anonymity as permission to engage in the kind of behavior they would never exhibit in person. In theory it could be taken as crude banter (and sometimes more than a little humorous -- check out threads on overrated band or artists), but it gets out of hand.

There is simply no reason to not be courteous and civil to others here. It's okay to discuss and disagree. If we all practiced good manners here, the quality of threads can only better.

You guys obviously haven't seen Karate Kid!

Wax on, wax off = Patience!

I was agreeing with & refering to the previous post regarding newbies.

As annoying as it can be sometimes I think it's not only fair, but imperitive that we give 'em a hand when they need it - within reason.
We were all newbies here once & we're all newbies at something, sometime.

Keeps the world spinning or somesuch?
