If you try the demo and listen to the song that comes up first ... thats not Techno, is it?
Yes, its mostly used for electronic music but you can make pretty much anything with it.

The pattern sequencer in FL seems really confusing. Unlike most other hosts, each pattern can contain events for any of the generators in a song. Seems like it would be hard to keep track of what you're doing.

that was the hardest concept for me to grasp.kuniklo wrote:The pattern sequencer in FL seems really confusing. Unlike most other hosts, each pattern can contain events for any of the generators in a song. Seems like it would be hard to keep track of what you're doing.
I do a separate pattern for each synth or instrument and put it all together in the playlist.
that is, when I use FL at all.
which I don't...but I've got it and boot it up every now and then to look at it..

HI
I asked this question about the pattern arrange - can you name patterns?
My memory recalls not being able to - which leaves you with lot's of patterns with no idea what they are.
Flipper.

Of course you can name patterns. What more - is that you could always name patterns ever since they made their first appearance in FL a really long time ago.
Which leaves you with a complaint that has no basis.

FL pattern is a "segment" - you can come up with as many segments as you like and then trigger them in playlist. What is so difficult about this concept?

At this point you can use FLStudio like just about any other multitrack audio and midi sequencer, but the pattern focus really adds quite a bit and lends itself well (in the value-added sense) to certain types of music (and putting things together quickly).
That said, I've done smooth jazz, pop, electronic rock, and old school funk with it.

In my mind FL was always best suited for those who look for groovebox type of sequencer - concentrating on blocks and then sort of assembling them in sequences. It lends itself really well for this type of work and thats how i like it. Looking at something "freeform" and empty - gives me the "blank page syndrome". FL is a cure for staring at empty screen.

as per the question of having all the instruments in all the patterns thereby making it confusing: You can zip up the the instruments in each so that only the active instruments in each pattern are visible. There are also groups and layers; it doesn't take any extra work to do it that way, but it can make things much much neater and easier when the track gets filled out.

Why do people call anything with a 4x4 beat techno? This is really f**king pissing me off, from now on I'm calling everything POP music that is not "TECHNO".A3ntar wrote:I always wanted to ask this question. Isn't fruity mainly a techno sequencer? Can you use it for anything else?

look FL is equally good for all genres, I write rock...however tbh I feel for me FL is the best place to start to develop a concept (whether it be from a gi-tar riff, synth part...whatever) However that doesn't mean it's the best place to finish a song. But imo it is essential to the start of my workflow...

Like many have said, you can make whatever you want in FLS. It's up to you and the tools you choose to plug into the host. One just has to find a host that inspires you and doesn't get in the way of finishing things, imo.A3ntar wrote:I always wanted to ask this question. Isn't fruity mainly a techno sequencer? Is this far enough away from techno? Done entirely within FLS in a few evenings:
