Hi all.
Is PA still going? I know that they recently moved to non-member downloads but the contests, forums, and submissions seem to have stopped. I hope everything's o.k. over there. It is a great place to gather inspiration!

I peaked in there every onee in a while but there's so little activity; synth of the week has been the same for months ...

The patch calaboration seems to be it's high point....besides all the patches.

yea, it's called patch arena. that's what it's about. patch arena needs to concentrate on this. maybe it should have more than 1 contest going and frequent prizes. it also needs to advertise itself after it streamlines

this month's competition kinda died because the last winner picked protoplasm. the synth already has 500 patches and the lazy buttons work very well. also, it seems there's no excitement in writing patches for a pad synth.

They should do KarmaFX synth and have a contest to write instruments for it one month...and the winner instrument gets patches written for it the next month. I'll think I'll post this at the forum.

But then again acording to the forum rules, the current winner would have to choose karma for it to be the contest synth.

that's a cool idea. that would work with the multi-contest idea. a permanent karma contest. a synth edit contest?

A KarmaFX contest would be cool to see. I think that would help a lot of people get their heads around patching a modular synth.

Any previous public attempts at Synthedit contest or patch sharing has proven a bit of a disappointment, though. There are several problems with them:

The default skin isn't particularly fun to use, so you'd have to bundle up a bunch of graphics, too.

A lot of seasoned (and sadly many not-so-seasoned) Synthedit users prefer to think of themselves as developers, and so seem to be wary of sharing trade secrets. To many, it would be like sharing the complete source code to a plugin, so you tend to get only the sporting few involved.

Similar to this, I often get the feeling that some folk don't want to publish big, complete patches for SE because they fear that some bottom feeder scam artist will wrap it up in a pretty skin and charge 100 euros for it.
