For those that missed the bold text in the voting thread, bitshift has not only disqualified himself from the running, but is also donating a pHATmatikPRO license and XRB sample library to the topmost winner! Much respect to the mad scientist from Glaresoft!
In other news, I suppose we can start the November contest... if there's a demand for one!

Tremble in fear as I get behind in the reviewing and am reduced to quick sentences.
slartibartfast - There seem to be a lot of small children being hacked to pieces this month. Hooray! Nice moody piece, makes me think of metal and saliva.
nikp2000 - Subtle and fascinating sound world. No idea how you derived all these sounds from the source.
Caco - Something pulsing under us, wet tentacles breaking through the crust.
WoJ - On first listen, the plunge sample seems to dominate. Next time through, ears focus on the ghostly intro, seeding the ground for and playing subtly against plunge, giving him a new flavour.
Hovmod - Eyes ahead, it's rock zombie time, with cool vocal wisps for the chin-strokers.
Krakatau - Birds and Frenchmen, my two great fears. Cheerful and brutally traumatic.
Markleford - A furry, autistic quality to this. Sonically inviting and nicely restrained.
Unfocused - Nebulous impressions, hard to hold on to, intriguing as they flit past.
starmelt - Bleak fixation. Knockman as a Travis Bickle monomaniac, smooth fit.
Mo Verdigast - The can-do Frankenstein spirit, little chunks stitched together, 'very nice' (heheh), origin unconcealed, but still existing in happy bone-sawing harmony.
freeztar - Another brooding cinematic one, the beast in the shadows, scuttling from tree to tree. Ending a bit hurried?
(Objective ratings updated for those with the spine to take it.)

'Tis the season for breaking out Poe and H.P. Lovecraft. I've recently been reading from Lovecraft's "The best of H.P. Lovecraft:Bloodcurdling Tales of Horror and the Macabre"
Mr. Lovecraft decided to join me in my reviews....
Farlukar - Nice percussive feel to this and a spooky atmosphere no doubt. "Then came that damnable, recurrent thing about the swineherd and his filthy drove in the twilit grotto."
Wopelka - Weirdness abounds in this interestingly crafted tune. "As his hammer blows began to fall, the horse outside whinnied in a tone which may have been encouraging and may have been mocking."
Mystahr - Disturbing, but not scary. Perhaps this is what a telephone call sounds like in hell. "This time I did not have to question the source of his snarls and hisses, and of the fear which made him sink his claws into my ankle, unconscious of their effect; for on every side of the chamber the walls were alive with nauseous sound."
Barnadine - Grabs one by the balls it does. Somehow both scary and musical. "But he neither answered me nor abated the frenzy of his unutterable music, while all through the garret strange currents of wind seemed to dance in the darkness and babel."
Patrick9 - Scary until about half way through. I like how evil walk and the scream were incorporated. "They will not hurt us if we leave them alone, but no one can say what will happen if we get too curious about them."
HanglowSkank - Cool mashup, but off mark for the theme. "Under the spectroscope both samples gave off an unknown spectrum, in which many of the baffling bands were precisely like those which the strange meteor had yielded in the previous year."
Youtm - Incredibly brilliant and well done, but out of bounds and not scary. "The manuscript writing consisted of the common traditional symbols used today in astronomy and anciently in alchemy, astrology, and other dubious arts-the devices of the sun, moon, planets, aspects, and zodiacal signs-here massed in solid pages of text, with divisions and paragraphings suggesting that each symbol answered to some alphabetical letter."
fucanay - Irresistably groovy and funky, but far from scary, unfortunately. "At the junction where the main highway runs inland and avoids Innsmouth, I was half-afraid my driver would take the bleak shore road that goes through that damnable place. He did not, however..."
knockman - Nice work. Spooky and contemplative. "Just then, however, chance made the opening which my questions had been unable to make; and the wheezing ancient's rambling took a turn that caused me to lean forward and listen alertly."
WattTyler - Holds a groove, but does not transcend to bloody madness. "For an instant I felt absolute despair, since my trapping in a chamber with no window egress seemed complete."
Scoops - Very cool. It kinda reminds me of Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure 2 where they are trapped in hell and keep opening different doors and experiencing different horrors. "I was irresolutely speculating on when I had better attack the northward door, and on how I could least audibly manage it, when I noticed that the vague noises underfoot had given place to a fresh and heavier creaking of the stairs."
Emdot_ambient - Very impressive use of samples. Over 100!
" By the time I had managed to tell him, as rationally as I could, what I thought I was hearing, my ears gave me the last fading impression of the scurrying; which had retreated still downward, far underneath this deepest of sub-cellars till it seemed as if the whole cliff below were riddled with questing rats."
Rachmiel - Like the minimalist approach, but it falls short of interest and fear. "Behind and below was only a darkness to which the men dared not return, and all about was a mounting wind which seemed to sweep down in black, frore gusts from interstellar space."

(found the Krakatau mirror)
Krakatau - Now THIS is strange, which I always like. The birds detract from the scariness me thinks, although I like how you used them as a rythymic element. "Somewhere I heard a clock ticking, and was vaguely grateful for the normality of the sound. It reminded me, though, of another thing about the region which disturbed me-the total absence of animal life."

Not that it makes much difference, but as I don't believe music can actually be that scary or ominous (besides sounding like the sentimental RnB pap that passes for mainstream pop these days), my interpretation was to resurrect a overexposed classic of sentimental pap that passed for mainstream pop of another era. My song was a twisted cover of ""A" - You're Adorable (The Alphabet Song)" popularized by Gordon Macrae & Jo Stafford from 1949. TBH, I'm rather fond of the original. I have a picture map of where all the samples in my version are if anyone is interested.
I played all the submissions this month at our annual Halloween party. Lots of good atmosphere, but each was too short.
Thanks for the reviews.
