I quickly need some Asian instrument loops (non-percussion) in wav/acid format.

1. Acid's "Opium" is discontinued
2. "The Legend of China" is out of stock @ soundsonline
3. EthnoWorld 3 is not in my budget

Any value-priced libraries you can recommend?

Thx!~

Yes, there's no shortage of percussion. Although a major shortage of decent tabla, I think.

You can find Sonic Foundry's Opium (or Ethnicity) on eBay almost any day of the week. I got both there for about $12 each.

I see why they were discontinued, though. Not what you'd call brilliant.

I did some tablas and Chinese percussion for Akai last year for the MPC1000 which you can download from Akai's site:

There's other percussion in their that might fit the bill.

The samples themselves are WAV so you'll have to map them out yourself but at least they're free ;)

Well, put it this way...not as much of a rip-off as the Sonic Foundry "Street Beats by Poogie Bell" -> 147 files, 34 MB. And most of them one second long! Jeeeezus! Plus some of the hyped 'recorded on location in Tokyo...' Well, it coulda been in a bathroom at Liverpool St station, too.

But Opium is a piddly 240 loops, 230 MB. And the only one I like is the pipa, 46 files, 33 MB.

And Ethnicity is, um, 323 loops for 233 MB. God knows how much of it is percussion...lots!

Finally, there's the still existent "World Pop" with 388 loops at 450MB. Not bad value, still percussion heavy.

Now maybe you'll see why everyone here is excited about the forthcoming Ethnotronic from BITR, hmm?
We've been suckered by s*itty collections of 'Asian' loops for so long, at $40, 50, 60...

Here's a long thread, with some details up front. It's in final beta but should be available within a week, I would hope. I'm certainly going to try it out...too many bad experiences with loops.

Their other stuff has been pretty good.

The quality is pretty good, but the value-for-money {loops-per-dollar} isn't so marvellous, is my reading. [Although, you often see them resold on eBay for about $30, so you can improve on that equation].

Also, with so many formats on the discs, they're not really targeting the real 'loop' market, but a mixture of looping and sampling. So, a lot depends on your set-up.

They do offer a pretty wide range of stuff you don't see elsewhere.

Hmm, $300 seems a very lot. I certainly wouldn't buy it on the strength of the demo on the site. Sounds too smooshy and westernized to my ears.
