Hey guys,

I have a couple of friends at berklee who I work with, and as such, they only use Logic Pro / PT for their stuff. (I use Ableton Live and Sonar). I'm tempted to buy Logic Express just to get a little more compatible with them, but I have a few questions I can't seem to find at apples site.

1) Can you open Logic PRO files in Logic express? I'm sure the other way works, but I'd be opening my friends PRO files in Express.

2) Can express export .omf/aaf format? I know Logic can, and this is ideally how my friends and I should be sharing our projects between SOnar and Logic, however htey claim they can't get it working.

3) Is it true that express can't load AU's?!

Thanks for any information.. if Apple had a logic express demo, none of this would be an issue, but sigh... things can never be that simple :)
If it sounds good it is good.

@WillieJenkins:

please look at:

There you will find a detailed feature comparison between LogicPro and Express.

Hope this helps!

Babya Logic is free and fully compatible with both programs via the MIDI file format.

There is indeed a demo of Express.

And yes it can of course open AU instruments, thats the only format it can work with, just like Pro.

The main diffrence between Pro and Express is the number of included instruments, number of inputs and surround mixing.

Dont mean to hijak the thread but its relevant! -

The price difference is huge! I just switched to mac and Im taking a serious look at Logic Express over Cubase SL.

I read that Logic Express is mostly missing the plugins that come with Pro. But of course one can use third party plugins. Basically what Im wondering is- Will Logic Express make the cut for professional recordings?

I made the switch from Cubase SX to Logic Express when i got my Mac. I was having stability issues with Cubase on OSX and could not afford Logic Pro.
I am perfectly happy with Express, but i am gonna upgrade to Pro some time but right now Express does everything i need( and plenty more ).

I would go for Express over SL, Logic is far more effictive than Cubase on Mac.
