Lenny Kravitz, during the "Mama Said" tour. As a support band he had that guitar-playing guy doing an amazing, ultrafunky one-man show. Oh, and yes, that guy was called Keziah Jones. He hit the charts a few months later.

Seen many great individual artists, but the overall lineups were not necessarily stellar. Only ones that come to mind off the top of my head:

Pretty eclectic list from me...Couple of the best I have seen include

The Cars w/Nick Lowe supporting (geez, that woulda been 1981 or so)

Skinny Puppy with Edward Ka-Spel supporting ('87)

Love and Rockets with the Godfathers supporting

Legendary Pink Dots with Big City Orchestra supporting ('91)

Best individual gigs would be the aforementioned Love an Rockets gig...they were really toghether that night. The next year they were a drunken mess.

Bryan Ferry's "Bete Noire" tour. A beautiful performance made even better by the fact that he had a top 40 hit in the charts, so the audience was full of yuppies who were totally unprepared for "in Every Dreamhome a Heartache".

and again the Legendary Pink Dots at the Mercury Cafe in Denver, mid-nineties sometime. Though I had seen them many times before and since, this was the first time they played Denver, which has a pretty decent underground fan base. The mood was electric and the band fed off of it. Edward, always a great showman, had them in the palm of his skinny hand. I watched in amazement as he told a witty story, and had the audience reeling with laughter, then reduce them to a stunned silence in less than a single measure.

nothing ever came close to the Summerfest shows at Rich stadium in Buffalo,

although by the time Yes got on stage, I was well, hard to put in words, remember the giant clam

as far as a lineup of different bands at one show:

the Adolescents with MDC at Dreamerz

Aerosmith/Forgiener/Mahogany Rush/???/and suprise opening act at 11:30 in the morning: AC/DC (with Bon Scott!) at the old Comesky Park

Burning Spear with Israel Vibrations

the Police with XTC (actually missed most of XTC, last time they toured i understand)

New Order with Echo and the Bunnymen

the Jesus Lizard with Red Red Meat at a small bar/benefit show

and saw Doo Rag 3 times, all good: 1st with a real good gothy/punk band from MI i've seen several times but can't remember their name, 2nd with Anal c**t (hands down one of the best shows ever) and 3rd with Demolition Dollrods and Boss Hog, another winner...

others i can't remember at this time....

here's one more: Moe Tucker with Half Japanese, at the end they did "Bo Diddly" with at least seven guitars...

Edit: as far as cool lineups of people in a performing group: Fred Frith with john Zorn, Fred Frith with Tom Cora in Skeleton Crew, Butthole Surfers with Kramer on bass, Nick Cave with Blixia and Kid Congo on guitars....

Mine would have to be the Toxic Twin Tower's Ball at Wembley Stadium in 1999.....Stereophonics, Black Crowes, Lenny Kravitz and Aerosmith. Great line-up (and Lenny was the best!)

West Palm Festival (69?), Janis Joplin joined by Johnny Winter with members of Vanilla Fudge providing backing.

Atlanta Pop Festival 7-4-70, Jimi Hendrix. They had a fireworks display while Jimi played the Star Spangled Banner.

I saw that too! At one time they were two of my fav groups.

Where I saw them there couldn't have been more than 15- peeps.

about 4 years prior to that show, I had 808 state sign one of their first 12 inches. I gave it away, don't know why or when.
