Effect chains for hosts with limited effect slots

Hey Y'all
My hosts (Sonar and Cubase LE) have limited insert/send slots for effects. I guess one solution to this limitation would be to insert a plugin that allows me to chain further plugins. I'm looking for a vst plugin (hopefully free) to do just that.
I know of the FFX-4 VST-DX wrapper that will allow me to insert 4 DX plugins, and also VST plugins if I wrap them up, but it seems a little cumbersome to do all this wrapping? Is there a pure vst equivelent?
Am I corret in thinking that at some point a free version of Energy would allow this? I'm sure I have free versions on a Computer Music magazine somewhere.
If this has been answered on another thread, please point me there, I swear I looked quite hard.
Cheers

I use EnergyXT for this. I know it's not free but it's still a steal!
If free versions of Energy exist (haven't heard of them) then presumably they'd allow you to do the same.
Seriously though, get EnergyXT for this use and you'll also finding yourself using more and more clever features of it

I really recommend eXT as well, because it's got a lot of functionality beyond chaining which you may find useful when used with another host.
Alternatively though, try Multifx - it's free and pretty rudimentary, but it chains.

Which version of Sonar? Ive owned Sonar since V1, and one of the reasons I bought it in the first place was because it had no limit on effects slots...
Or do you mean Sonar Home Studio?
BTW Try the Chainer demo.

EneryXT, it's even a great host, you'll put Cubase and Sonar aside in notime

Thanks guys.
I was seriously considering eXT as a host before I bought a E-Mu card with Sonar LE and Cubase LE bundled. The wife and I are on a big ££ saving drive at the moment and so I'd rather not spend any more on this hobby. If MultiFXVST works then I think that should so the trick

Chainer does the trick for me.

I was interested in energyXT and might be trying it...I settled on Art Teknika Console because it does both DX and VST effects:

I think chainer allows both DX and VST effects too (?)
