hi... i was listening to Jay-Z "ain't no ni##a" last night... it contains a bass sample from an old epmd song.... are u familiar these songs? and if so, do u happen to know the type of bass this is? It appears to be some type of string bass with perhaps a "wah" effect. It sounds amazingly funky. But rather than guessing, i wanted to know if anyone had specific knowledge. Also, does anyone know the type of bass instruments/samples epmd used on their earlier songs? Sorry for such and obscure question (not many epmd fans i assume)... but i heard the above songs on my ipod this morning and would love to add this type of bass to my tracks. thanks sorry i have no audio example.. i am not sure how to post audio examples.

Jay-Z ? Brother of Jay-Lo ??

Without hearing the example, I'd go for Synth1 and play around with the filter cutoff, resonance and ADSR.
