The new FL Studio Sampler Channel...

Is killing the program's usability for me - to the point of really pissing me off.
I drag a drum sample from the browzer to the step sequencer, and instead of simply loading up the sample like normal, now it loads up the sample and stretches it to f**k all for no reason. Is there an option to tell FL not to do this?
What other sampler in the world automatically does this? none, because its a retarded function. I drag a bunch of drum samples to make a beat, and I have to set the stretching "time" knob to zero and select "resample" to each one, making the best host for drum programming the worst host for drum programming.
If i load a sample into the sampler it's because i want to play the sample, not a randomly time-stretched version of it.
Also, I like how older versions had the exact and easy "fit" function to allign a sample to a certain legnth of steps, as opposed to the modern, clumsy "time" knob.
If these issues arent addressed I will just have to bounce back to version 4.
Again I ask, is there an option to have the auto time stretching function turned off?

hmmm, frustrating. I remember scratching my head about this, too.
some thoughts:
drag the samples straight to the pattern borders/backdrop instead of previously used channels whic hmight retain their settings.
Make sure the channel sampler is set to "auto". that way the samples will not be stretched. The initial samples in the default templates are set to "resample" - that screwed me up for a long time. Either add sampler channels or drag samples to the pattern window, but not to other channels?
from the manual:"To disable time stretching for the sample, turn the Time knob maximum to left (set to 0). This is the default mode which won't use resampling during dynamic tempo changes to preserve sync"
go figure

...there are two things you should check as it happens to me sometimes too:
1. Check that in the stretching window, the setting reads a "resample" and not "auto".
2. Also make sure that te time knob in this same window is not moved or all the way left.
That usualy gets thing back to normal for me. Hope it helps...

I get the same problem, but it only seems to affect samples whose length is close to one-bar. For loops this works fine, but for claps and hihats and cymbals and things, it's damn annoying.
Do you get the bug when you try to manually load samples (through the channel settings dialog) and it keeps retriggering the sample you had loaded when you move from folder to folder (in the Windows browser)? This is very annoying, as I used to use the Windows browser exclusively, since I find the in-built one clumsy to use.
I hope this gets sorted out eventually.

..now I'm not sure about the auto/resample option as I see ouroboros and I have it backwards. I hink those are merely stretching options and may not matter...but DO make sure that the TIME knob is all the way left.

thats the thing though is that I HAVE to do this for every sample I load. It is REALLY REALLY iritatingDebutante wrote:...there are two things you should check as it happens to me sometimes too:

That part doesn't matter. It happens when I:Opia wrote: I experience nothing like this when loading samples in FL5
do you start with a template you saved previously?
-Add a sampler channel and drag the sample to it from the browzer
-Drag the sample from the browzer to a blank spot in the step sequencer, creating a new sampler channel
-right click a sample in the browzer and select "Open in new channel"
it doesn't happen every time - probably dictated by the legnth of the sample like MacQ has stated

The issue is with FL but it's somehow related to the meta information present in the samples (much like the dreaded looppoints issue that afaik existed in FL4). I doubt that anyone exept the coders can tell you which metadata causes this, but it comes down to being a design flaw (a bad decision on coder's side to try to "make it automatic" for the user, to think for the user, always a bad decision).
IMO it would be best if looping and stretching were totally disregarded when both loading and previewing samples in the browser. If the user wants stretching or looping he can then set it up manually.

Obviously a computer still can’t throw a television out of a hotel window or get drunk and be sick on the carpet, so there is little danger of them replacing drummers for some while yet. -- Nick Mason

Agreed! Default should do nothing.peejunk wrote: IMO it would be best if looping and stretching were totally disregarded when both loading and previewing samples in the browser. If the user wants stretching or looping he can then set it up manually.

I can't seem to replicate this behaviour - the default time stretching settings on my sampler channel are:
Pitch = 0
Mul = 100%
Time = 0
Mode = Resample
I've tried it with loops, longer audio clips and single shots.
I'm using 5.02
Pitch = 0
Mul = 100%
Time = 0
Mode = Resample

Chase, why aren't you using FLS's FPC for drum set ups? Using the sampler for one shots is fine, but with FPC you can organize entire kits whether one-shots or layered. Just curious.
I use Battery2 for this type of thing myself, but if given a choice between the sampler and FPC, I'd go with FPC for drum related materials.
