any chance you'd be able to keep a version log on the site while the 3 band version is still up? just to make sure we all can keep up to date so we're not left hanging when it gets taken offline... pretty please?

David, congratulations on "outing" your pro version.
And thanks again ever so much for chosing to "not forget the little guy".
I think people have been dogging you about the GUI mostly because there are a lot of pro GUI's out there and, more often than not, they accompany high end software, but obviously functionality is the only thing that is required. If you were in position to have someone produce a lovely, flashy GUI, I disagree that it would hurt your high end business, but it may also be the case that not having advanced graphics will have no effect on your popularity among professionals.
I think it comes down to getting the word out and circulating among pros (now that you've stirred things up among the Eastenders
).
Magazine/webzine write ups and reviews would be a good step in that direction. Perhaps you could start emailing various newstand and online mags (like Sound on Sound, Recording, Electronic Musician etc.) and they might let you submit a copy for evaluation and possibly review. To me, that seems like the next logical step, and I think they would react by taking you seriously as soon as they played with the technology a bit.
BTW, thanks for letting the GUI'ed 3 band loose! I'll try it in Tracktion 2 tonight!

Well - I'm nobody and I could take it very seriously if it was sensibly priced. Personally I can't take it seriously priced out there - besides an excellent sound extra exclusive pricing will surely make it stand out - maybe weigh that against potential volume sales I suppose. A great review in SOS or Future Music might help guarantee some volume (you're already getting great reviews at KVR)...never know, if the price matched that class of folks.dbmcclain wrote:...But nobody will take this seriously if I sell it for $100. ..

what about charging the pro price for the 10 band version (which would cater more to the pros who need that many bands) and charging something more "kvr-friendly" for a 4 band version?
that way bedroom guys get awesome quality at a price they can afford, and the pros get a number of bands they're more likely to be able to find a use for at a price at which they will take the plug seriously...

Or even a 5 band w/ GUI for half the price of the pro version. In a way that might even work marketing wise since this is a very versatile EQ. There's no reason to rule out using it on tracks. Pros might still want 10 bands so they can mix with a "fine tooth comb" on each track (and not blow up their CPU's), whereas semi-pros and bedroom putzes such as myself
, might settle for 5. Only problem is, $500 is still a lot for a single VST effect. Still, something to consider...
At any rate, I'd like to initiate a pledge, hopefully, from everyone who is lucky enough to get in on the free full-featured 3 band. I think David released this temporarily only for the sake of giving something back to all those who have stuck with this early process of testing the technology with the general public. Although unexpected, many bugs did emerge, so there has been some give and take.
I'm pledging not to distribute the 3 band. I will only use it myself. It's not intended as freeware like the 1 and 4 band, so please, everyone, don't let it get loose and start "breeding". Refined Audiometrics has, in a sense, paid us for our testing input and support, so we owe it to them not to let this arrangement end up hurting their actual business.

Hi guys,
Thanks for all that feedback and good suggestions on news outlets. I may well do a hobby pricing as well.. stay tuned.
I just sent a copy with a note to George Massenburg. Let's see what a real pro has to say about it?...
Cheers,
- DM

And... BTW... That 3 band unit has zero restrictions on it. I realized what I was getting myself into when I released it... I argued with my colleagues here, and I think goodwill has a lot of value.
Anyway, don't be stepping on egg shells for my sake. I really do appreciate the willingness of everyone to stick it out and to help with error feedback. Invaluable!

Very classy.
Thanks for the three band. I really like your EQ, and I don't mind the GUI, it's not that bad. It sort of reminds me of Eqium-the Gui that is.
It really says a lot about your character to stick it out here through all the comments, good and bad. Then to release a free version on top of all that.
I'm impressed.
