Hello everyone.

Firstly, this is a fantastic plug. I've been eagerly following the saga of its development, although I haven't had much to say since everyone else was so quick with the bug reports :)

I'm not sure if this qualifies as a bug or not, but when you try to automate the parameters in FL only the parameters for the first band are given names and the rest appear as '???'. Of course this doesn't effect the functionality in any way, just thought I'ld mention it in case you weren't aware.

I guess I'm probably the only person who's trying to use
this as a tweakable lowpass :)

Thanks again for the great plug.

only bugg i can find is, not all the vst automatable paramaters show up with propper names

Subz

edit: bugger i got beat to it :hihi:

Also, the colour of the lines in the graph change randomly as paramters are altered (real-time or automated). Linear phase filters flicker between green and blue, while phase-warped ones flicker between yellow and orange.

edit: I think dbmcclain may have stumbled on the fastest ever beta testing procedure :)

The 3 band works fine so far in sonar 4. I've tried it at several latencies with multiple instances, no problems. I'll do a few more tests tommorrow.

While we're being perfectionists about the UI, I'd like to be able to switch bands my clicking on the relative curve in the plot window. That allows me to work quicker, and get more of a "feel" for tweaking. Clicking on the band in the list every time makes really intense tweaking, which it seems this EQ was designed for, kinda repetitive.

Despite that, I really like the feel of the UI, it's very concise and natural. It's not the flashiest in the world, and I agree with everyone else that the appearance really counts at the marketing and promotional level, but as far as usability goes I think it's just right aside from the above criticism.

It will matter though on a promotional level for being taken seriously, much like the price tag. I'd hire a good graphics designer if I were in your position.

Edit: I'm getting the same thing as the person above.

If band 1 is linear, and band 2 is nonlinear, they both are colored yellow when band 2 is selected, and correctly when band 1 is selected.

Edit 2: Oh, and apparently I can automate the version number. :lol:

Well, sometimes the criticism is deserved...

I honestly had no idea what a minefield it would be to interface to the wide variety of VST hosts. So my humble apologies for assuming it would be easy.

well... as for the band colorations... I'll have a look at the reported random behaviors...

But be aware, that only the composite and the band under modification are shown in the graph. And if any of the bands in the composite structure are non-linear phase, then the whole composite is non-linear phase.

You only get end-to-end linearity if all of them are linear phase.

But I think I hear someone asking indirectly for more curves on the display -- so you can click the one that might interest you...?

Hi, i just downloaded the 3 band freebie.
Best eq plug ive ever heard thanks man.

I'm still trying to tickle some randomness, but I haven't seen it yet.

However, a clue to the color coding....

The composites are always shown as a fainter background curve. You never directly edit them... The band under modification is always shown in the brightest colors and always has a knob that you can drag for frequency and gain.

Yellow = Stereo/Middle non-linear phase.
Green = Stereo/Middle linear-phase.

SkyBlue = Side linear-phase
Orange = Side non-linear phase.

BTW, you can click on the metering legend to bring up a pop-up menu to select a different metering option. The hold time on the peak levels is supposed to be 10 seconds. I haven't measured it yet.

All of the metering action has a 600 ms time constant (e-folding time), but the Peak level (in white) is immedate to the upside.

The colored metering bars represent the actual RMS-wide spectrum values in whatever K system you select. Peak level meters are always just plain white -- you can't hear peaks and so they are given less emphasis.

Clicking on the meters immedately clears the held peak levels on both Peak and RMS, as well as clearing the clipping LED's. Clicking on the LED's only clears them alone.

The bars in the meters are 4 pixels/dB. So you ulitmately get 1/4 dB resolution.

The bars are currently linear in dB, meaning that the lowest levels to the right correspond to -48 dBFS. However, as long as your signal is at least 60 dB or greater, at least one bar will be lit at the left end.

Not precisely following the specs on the K-system, but close enough for most quick look uses. If you need better metering, I can recommend the Elemental Audio Inspector XL series.
