If you have 3,000 GHZ of computing power then I'm surprised you haven't had some visits at your front door by various organisations..original flipper wrote:HI
I remember people harking on about the 'Ambience' reverb and in the next sentence about 30%+ CPU usage - I can't in this day and age of 3,000ghz power DAW's accept that anything that takes up much more than 10% per instance is worth considering as anything other than of curiosity value.

Hi bmaniac and thanks for the reply.
I understand what you mean but I'm sure you also know that not all mastering engineers use Weiss and Algoritmix. The FX2000 is also a well regarded tool amongst the professionals. And I know some of them have only good words about a rather cheap eq named JMS HiRes Eq not to mention UAD's PrecisionEq which, I don't think I have to point that, if you buy the UAD UltraPak you get a great sounding eq (and the MEs are using it, you know this) and a whole bunch of great sounding plugins which I don't have to mention, everybody knows them, for around 1200 E. This is something a developer should keep in mind when charging 1000 E for an eq.
And I know at least one ME who uses frequently Waves LinEq and I'm sure there are a few more out there who have it in their arsenal.
Best wishes.

@OMU, with FX2000 you mean the Sintefex fx2000?
Yes, I know some have it in their racks but it's modelling 'character' EQs like pultec, api, neve (being a sintefex owner myself I can see the benefit of having one in mastering but only as a 'character' unit). The UAD precision EQ fits probably into this category too, no? The Weiss, Algorithmix and TC 6000 equalisers are mainly for completely transparent use and sharp bell curves which is where this PLParEQ fits in. It's price is quite a bit lower than the ones mentioned above so I still think it's rather fair (not that I will ever have 1000$ to spend on a plugin, ever!).
Cheers!

BUG REPORT:
at 96khz PLParEQ 10 band and 3 band, version 1.56, have some problems drawing the graphics in the right place. Looks like the scale shifts and messes up the graphics.

PLParEQ 1.56: The frequencies are sample rate dependant. Changing the sample rate changes the filter frequencies.

Definately some screen re-drawing issues with 1.56 3band. I can't always duplicate them, but some i've noticed (in SX3 P4/XP):
1 - when closing and re-opening the gui, the selected band loses focus.
2 - when changing a band type, the screen doesn't always re-draw. This means you can select All Pass and still see a curve.
Also - with the 1 band 1.53, this consistently fails to work for me. It simply defaults to "disable", and because there is no "enable" switch on the gui, I can only get it started by using automation.

Version 1.57 now available. Many, many, usability improvements, as per suggestions received by some astute Mastering Engineers in Switzerland.

The Hydratone hype fell off pretty fast
. At $1000, I don't think the guys at gearsluzts would buy this...

Hmm... I see a lot of "Bug reports", like Quality always stays at 1... etc.
Be aware, that this more elaborate interface will break your old presets as we continue to improve on it. Whenver my release notes on the website indicate this to be the case, as with version 1.57, you MUST remove the plugin from your project, to clear the old, invalid presets as remembered by your host.
Then you can re-insert the plugins into your project. I have a stong feeling that this will clear up many mysterious behavior problems....

Are all these versions relevant to the 10 band or the 3 band?

Something i've noticed when comparing PLP against other eq's I have ... the band Gain controls function in a strange way, and i'm wondering if this is a good idea. PLP gain seems to affect the entire curve up or down. With other eq's - like Ultrafunk - the gain seems to affect the filter, and changes the shape of the curve but not the output of the unaffected frequencies. I'm not sure if I explained that well ...
Consider - for example - applying a 6dB notch filter at 100Hz. With other filters I have, you would select the frequency and then a gain of -6dB. The overall output would not be affected by -6dB - just the notch.
PLP seems to be the reverse ... I find this disturbing.
Sorry - I don't mean to upset anyone here. I seem to have a 'strange way' about me that upsets some people. I'm not trying to do that ... but please comment on this, thanks.
