to upgrade to 2.4 was going to cost me $50 and I didn't see the need.

v2.2 sounds fantastic already :D
Ah,

OK, I see. I have version 1, that sounds quite different. :)

I made this small demo to test how easy it is to record live with Ext.

Synth 1

Basicly it shows how bad I am playing a midi guitar

Made when I started to be somewhat proficient in the eXT. Mostly done using the Wusikstation2.

MOTP

First my tune using only hardware synths and eXT. Used the 2/4 for pauses for two or three times. Looking forward to write more songs with alternate time signatures.

The songs found here (at the auditorium) were all made in more or less the same way.
I used and made a bunch of preset pad sounds on several synths in the main window, and routed them all to a mixer. Then I would have one or two of them up in the mix while I changed presets on the synth(s) that were faded out of the mix, hoping that they would sound OK when faded in. So I am crossfading pads live.

The RAIN song used a couple of rain samples from Kriminal, and the effect at the beginning and end were made like this:
I put the sample in the slicer, and exported the slicer midi to a sequencer track. Then I automated the tempo from ridiculously slow to ridiculously fast, so that to begin with the slices have big gaps between them, and when at max tempo the file doesn't quite sound like it did originally. The effects and delay I put on helped make that work, imo.

With the first two I recorded it all with the master recorder, and then I put the rendered file in a mastering ext setup. For the last one I put the mastering ext setup in an instance of eXTE that I placed last in the chain and recorded live through that as well, keeping an eye on the inspector as I fiddled along.
The RAIN song has a couple of sequenced bits in it as well.

The first one has a chord (or maybe rather a note) progression that I slapped down in a midi comp, but for the two last ones I just let them all sing out on the same note, and the presets are responsible for the variation in tone and texture. Rain has a string synth melody that I played, clicking a note now and then in the midi comp piano while selecting and fading. Quite a busy song to actually record... :)

Here are some of the tracks I've made with eXT. I use eXT for everything except mastering, which is done with T-Racks. Below is a list of some of the VST's I've used (mostly freeware from KVR!):

http://www.myspace.com/suboscillator

Instruments: Asynth (a pig, but good!), Unknown64, Peach, PlugsoundFREE, Crystal (another CPU hog.), MiniMogueVA (super fast & awesome!!), Arppe2600VA (also fast & awesome!), Triforce, Vstation, ComboSister (a gem!), tapeworm, PolyvoksStation, TriangleII, LollapaloozaII, Oberon, MrTramp, etc. I absolutely LOVE Unknown64 and LollapaloozaII. Can't beat that supersaw!

Effects: Blockfish, Classic EQ, Classic Delay, Ambience, MrDonald, TubeBooster, Voxengo Tube Amp, E-phonic Lofi, etc. I use Blockfish and Ambience a LOT!!
