Yes, this is a great thread and should probably be a sticky. This is a thread I have tried to get going for well over a year now, for people to share their main window set-ups/rigs/ensembles/etc... to create even a library of sorts so that other users can get up to speed quickly and be inspired by new modes of working.
But those threads never really took off so I wrote an article for Computer Music showing 12 main window ensembles. The article was put on hold and I got busy with other things so I'm holding onto it for either publication or else I'll release it on the forum here.
I was triggering main window events from FruityLoops (with eXT loaded as a VST) but now the sequencer has come of age it's easy to configure main window ensembles and then load them into an eXT inside a sequencer (eXT host->sequencer->eXT Vsti). This is so powerful it's unbelivable more artist aren't using this method, it's the ultimate in live playing and almost turns eXT into an instrument.
So I do feel that main window ensembles are absolutly vital to the future of eXT, they are what really seperates eXT from all the other apps out there.

Whats bother me with this is syncing. Using the main window, I can't seem to sync things together.
I have a midi part setup with two patterns. One with a bassline, the other with a bassline fill. Now, I'm trying to use a mute group to make switching them "seamless" but it's just not working for me. It'll miss out midi notes and it wont switch patterns on the downbeat all the time.
It's not my timing with pressing the keys, something fishy is going on.

For those having syncing problems...
A while back I made a little wrapper of a SE module that detects start and stop messages and sends a CC (You can map to start/stop/rec/locate).
Take a peek here.
http://home.comast.net/~soma720/sync_and_buffer.zip
If you want to trigger a bunch of midi parts in sync, I would use the live mode int he sequencer to send the trigger notes to the midi parts.
But as I mentioned earlier I think when ever working in the main window it's really a lot easier if you stick your .ext in a hosted VST.

ah yes, the sequencer syncs fine, but what are the midi part comp's for? when u cant even play them simultaniously, or sync them either for that matter..

If you trigger 2 of them at the same time they are synced right?
Here's what I mean. Press play on the master midi part or hold C-1 on your keyboard and you will see how I sequence the midi parts from a master part.

('ll go back and read the whole thread)

ah thank you!
now i understand the idea behind it all. finally!
now, if i play the midi parts live, do they sync to eachother so it all stays in beat, or do i have to hit the keys with ultimate precision?

When you play live from the sequencer, it will all stay in beat. But that doesn't happen with just triggering midi parts with a controller.
Sequencer is the answer then.

I would use the sequencer in live mode because that will trigger switch quantized (synced).
The other option is to use a midi vst that will quantize your trigger notes from a live keyboard

Surely is, exactly what I wrote in my review of eXT:soma wrote:But as I mentioned earlier I think when ever working in the main window it's really a lot easier if you stick your .ext in a hosted VST.
