the sequencer syncs fine, but the midi parts done even move a muscle.

MIDI Parts are tiggered by key, so a C1 note from the host track will trigger the 1st MIDI Part (that is if you have the Part set to Trigger>C1).steffensen wrote:yea, but when using it in a host, how can i get the midi parts synced?
Also check if your host is transposed. One disconnect I have in FLStudio is that I have to play a C3 key to get a C1 MIDI Part to play. This is because I have the root key set to C5, so I'm up 2 octaves (of course if I set the Channel's root to C3 then I'm sync'd up with C1).

ah of course! i was so focused on getting it to start directly like the sequencer, that i didnt even think of other ways to do it. thanks again.

I must say i'm having a hard time doing it all without a seq, i must be so used to the traditionnal way that i'm kinda blindfolded... That will take some time i guess.
On the other hand, i've experimented more with the live mode (seq addict here), and i was thrilled about how great it is !
shit man, when i think that i paid 39euros for a modular host/vst/vsti, with the greatest piano roll and enveloppes around, with plenty of live performance potential (how does it compare to ableton minus the audiowarp thing btw?), and so much possibilities that it basically gets me dizzy when i think about it... I'm gonna get an eXT logo tatooed on my butt !

Yeah. Jorgen really could be charging a lot more for this program, and y'know what, he turns down donations too. I'm gonna get X tatooed on my left ball, T tatooed on my right ball, so that when I push them together it says XT.

I still prefer Abletondisturb wrote:(how does it compare to ableton minus the audiowarp thing btw?),
There was a lot to thought put into it by artists who really intended on using it live. On the other hand I can't deal without the "Main window" of XT and haven't found a good way to mix them yet because of the way the mixer and clips work in Live.
I eventually stopped using my demo when I just couldn't spend any more money on it (bought Waves a while back and can't even use them in XT

ahahah that's even better...Andrew Vernon wrote:Yeah. Jorgen really could be charging a lot more for this program, and y'know what, he turns down donations too. I'm gonna get X tatooed on my left ball, T tatooed on my right ball, so that when I push them together it says XT.
But enough of the OT, it started so well
One thing i've been struggling a bit with :
I like the idea of being able to play in some notes (to add/replace in the melody or beat) while triggering my parts, wther it is in the main window or in live mode.
So i need to have the midi thru enabled.
The problem is if i do this, trigger keys will obviously overlap synths notes/sounds from my vst and i get some unwanted sounds.
Any tips on this ? I can use my pc keyboard in live mode, but i'd rather do it all in midi.
One thing also, when using midi parts only, i really miss the groove fx, so there it goes again for my groove comp fr (or it should be made available in the midi part comp at least, like the performer etc, there it could deal with midi data just like in the seq, if the midi in messages are the real problem...)

i guess the deepness of ableton's live capabilities result form the session view, maybe eXT in that matter is too tied to the traditionnal sequencing ?soma wrote:I still prefer Abletondisturb wrote:(how does it compare to ableton minus the audiowarp thing btw?),It's a bunch quicker and more intuitive.

as far as mixing them for live purpose i would suppose they overlap too much (with different methods also) to use both app's live mode at the same time..

mmm is there no way to use the midi patcher here? could have a cc that trigers the patcher to go one way (the synth playing part) then to the live mode triggers?
Anywho, its been mentioned in this thread before but i could realy do with some ext live templates, and im sure loads of ppl would benefit from some basic templates. I've just been messing with live mode for the first time and i cant figure out a non-complex way to trigger fills! The live mode looks so daunting!
oh and its a real pain to have to use the mouse to assign notes/key numbers ect into the live mode triggers.

You could maybe use a seperate midi channel for "thru" messages and keep the triggering all on the same channel.

i think it relies so much on your compositions and the gear you use that the only one who can make usable templates is yourself...WoJ wrote:Anywho, its been mentioned in this thread before but i could realy do with some ext live templates, and im sure loads of ppl would benefit from some basic templates. what do you have in mind ?

the thing is i'd rather not have to change the channel on my keyboard to play in...Andrew Vernon wrote:You could maybe use a seperate midi channel for "thru" messages and keep the triggering all on the same channel.
But i'll have a look at the midi patcher and channels, see if i can come up with something, any tips appreciated though...[/quote]

Yeha yeah it's all possible but then you start to lose the convieince of Live so you might as well just use one or the other. (And I chose XT for now) That's all I meant.
They are both excelent tools that's for sure!
