Just got one album from Deep-Forest, and also the latest Mike Oldfield, both uses the synth-vocal stuff. I think is cantor, or vocaloid, something like that... I must say, all songs sound the same, thanks to those crappy voices. :( What I loved about Mike was that he was able to mix Accoustic and Synthetic sounds with Real-Voices, not this crap... Deep Forest is the same, I can't even listen to some songs, as robotic they sound...

I know, I love Vocoders and Kraftwek robots, but hey, even those were created using REAL voices. :hihi:

Ok, <rant off> ... Wk

i agree will :singer:

:disclaimer: this post was made using vocaloid.

Agree too Will. It's funny that so many 'new age' artists have graviated to Vocaloid and Cantor so? But the same happened with vocoders for me and/or that 'Cher effect' - Daft Punk put they nail in that coffin for me.

But it's interesting as you say - I can listen to Kraftwerk or Wendy Carlos anytime still, and maybe even Boards Of Canada and Devo - because they did songs that 'needed' those types of vocal effects? But Eifel 65 to Mike Oldfield - I mean come on!

I'm still interested in Vocaloid and linguistics software... But if I was handed a big record deal tommorrow with a huge promo campaign, would I run out to integrate these things into my first track 'hit'? I sincerely hope not! :-o

I'll save it for when I produce vurts debut CD.

Ahhh, yes, Cher and Daft Punk vocoder shit is also terrible. :-(

I think Vocaloid is great to make the song, and after its done, hire the real thing and use Vocaloid to show what you wanted.

Ya betta not listen to my trax then.... eeek.... Numerous vocal trix to disguise my dodgey vocals :)

I don't think Vocal Trix are bad, at least is still your voice. ;-)

He he he

I don't think there were many vocaloid users on this forum yet. I was one very guilty puppy. Playing with these toys. It was a bit of fun. I still use it from time to time. Let's face it. Not all of us can sing. Not all of us has any hope to ever sound reasonable, even with today's pitch shiting etc.

Some of us who can not sing do not have these sparkling personallities to attract nice friends who can sing. If some of us had to get somebody to sing on any of our tracks we'll have to pay a lot extra. Not only pay for the time and expertise, but also for the security because these kind pro singers will be too embarressed if anybody see them visiting us. So we also have to pay to keep this secret.

Then came along vocaloid. It has no shame. It has no friends. It is too happy to sing for whoever whants it.

That is sad. I know.

My few vocaloid tracks all still sounds mucho better than the ones where I sang.

I do however think it is totally outragious for somebody like Mike Oldfield to use Vocaloid. Yuk man. I'm sure he can afford extra singers. Even if he does not have friends, there will be somebody who do not mind being associated with him.

Very nice comment, true indeed, we can use those programs, but only due to the fact we can't afford real singers. But when you pay 10 bucks for a CD, you would expect something more professional, shame on you Mike. ;-)

Edit: Did you know that his latest CD he used Fruit-Loops? Nothing wrong on that, Prodigy uses Reason, right? :hihi: Also, half of the CD sounds too much like Euro-Dance to my ears, but I could be wrong...

Are there two groups under the name Deep Forest? I've heard two strikingly different types of music from artists under that name.

Good question, I would also want to know that.

yeah fruity loops is a very nice program, oldfield is a smart man for using it... it must save him a lot of time... see.. lets compare this to cars.... fruity lets u hop in your car and drive off straight away... whereas cubase, logic wants u to check your tire pressures and make sure your windscreen is clean and seat belt is on before you can start the engine... fruity loops is probably the most immediate/hassle-free sequencer out there... period. ps. yes fruity gets bundled with some crap sounds, but as a program for productivity it's very hard to fault.
