Okay, I need to know exactly who is donating the money. What should the deposits say?

"Chrysalid: Musicians for Katrina Relief"

or

"Chrysalid: Musicians for Katrina Relief CD Project"

or

"Chrysalid: www.katrinareliefcd.com"

...or what? :)

The first choice is rather simple and appropriate, yeah? :)

Do you mean I can´t win a Receptor with my answer ?

I PM'd the *appropriate* persons for Receptor prize a long time ago and they didn't even do me the courtesy of a *f**k off Alex*, so no -- no Receptor prize.

However -- IMHO -- no big loss

If you win you'll get a smiley. :)

Of course, there is a number of rules that must be observed first...and they are so secret that not even the organizers know what they are... :-o

I think it should be "independant musicians"....otherwise people might see it as an RIAA publicity scam...;)
The highest form of knowledge is empathy, for it requires us to suspend our egos and live in another's world. It requires profound, purpose‐larger‐than‐the‐self kind of understanding.

I'm going to need some help here. I am unable to find account numbers for donations to the Red Cross and Habitat for Humanity. It is easy to pay online via a credit card but I can't do that since the money is sitting in my PayPal account, and I also think having a paper receipt is better than an e-mail receipt.

Suggestions? Can someone "over there" call the RC and HFH and ask what the best way for us to donate money to the Katrina relief funds is?

OK, I tried, but failed, to help here. I called the Red Cross, whose best suggestion was that to remind that there was a "donate" to Red Cross button on PP's site which I also remembered. After digging around on PP's site I couldn't find it, so I called them. They spent an inordinate amount of time trying to explain to me how Paypal works and pretending no such button ever was there. I point blank asked them to disavow, then, that there ever was such a link - at which point they went and talked to someone to verify who then explained it was there for a time but no longer is.

I'm inclined not to use any typical Paypal method despite any ease it might lend, although it doesn't appear to be a valid option anyway, because they verified that any Paypal payment is going to take the normal Paypal fees - and screw that.

The best option is one of the withdraw funds options. Transfer it to your associated bank account then cut a check, use the balance to have Paypal send you a check, get the money from an ATM (though this will be too much I'm sure):

Transfer funds to your bank account:3-4 Business Days:Free!
Request a check from PayPal:1-2 Weeks:$1.50 USD
Get cash out of an ATM:Instant:$1.00 USD

You also have the option of using an eCheck (from the Send Money dialog, a "Funding Option") which essentailly means they cut a check for you, but it comes from your associated bank account balance, not Paypal balance, and I assume normal PP feed apply as with any other transfer.

I'm assuming the same will apply with HFH, because they only seem to have credit card donation online.

Though it slows the donation a few days, I think we are best to withdraw from Paypal and then use a debit card, cc, or physical payment.

Kovacs,

Paypal has a debit card option that you can sign up for. With the PayPal debit card, you can use it anywhere that will accept mastercard credit cards. It costs nothing to get the card. It does require a bit of time for the card to come through. At least that is how it works here in the USA.

I have one. I've been using it for about 4 months. It's very nice for making on-line purchases as one gets a 1% cash back bonus back to your PayPal account.

I would immediately apply for the card to keep the time delay to a minimum.

If we want to get the money to the relief agencies as soon as possible, I could handle paying out of my PayPal, if you want to transfer the amount you were going to send out to them to my PayPal.

I could receive the funds into my PayPal account, then turn around and pay it out 50% to American Red Cross, 50% to Habitat for Humanity, and send the receipts back to you or whomever to post them on the website.

In this case, the donations would have my name on them, but I would try to ensure that it states something like 'on behalf of Musicians for Katrina Relief' in the donation somehow.

What say you all?

(edited - mn typing as I typed)

Actually, mn has a good point - this option that I suggest probably would incur some kind of PayPal fee straight off.

Either wait for your own PayPal debit card, or do one of the things that mn suggests.

The only problem with transfering to you, Scott, to do a debit donation is that PP is going to take a huge chunk just to do that transfer, right?
