Seriously poor artists have been known throughout history to make better music, so I can only deduce that if you use cheaper software than the music is more likey to be more inspired

i'd say trackers...not to mention trackers have that simple, but capable of incredibly complex stuff aura associated with them. Besides, trackers have been around since like c64 times, so a really poor persion could theoretically snag an old computer from like a garbage can and use it to start tracking.

The phenomena described is also seen at e.g. painters like Vincent van Gogh.

I think it's due to getting the most out of what you actually have and can use (thus being creative) instead of blaming your tools of your own incompetence and replacing them every few weeks.

How about something free called Linux that will also run well on a old or buget machine.
