Loading Samples in ST 2.1

Squids -
I seem to have run into a bit of a problem importing samples in ST 2.1. When I hit "import" I get the drop down menu. Then I choose "samples," but nothing happens. I get the same problem in both standalone and on VST. I'm running Cubase SX3 in Win XP Pro.
When I switch back to ST 2 and try the same thing, it works like it's supposed to. Is this a bug in 2.1 or did I overlook something on the install? I don't seem to have any other problems. Even the much maligned scroll wheel works perfectly on my system in both stand alone and VST.
Also, one other question please: If I load in, say, a one bar drumloop, is there a way to edit it so that it actually loops for as long as I hold down the key? I'm pretty sure this should be possible as there are presets that appear to accomplish this, but darn if I can figure it out. Your guidance, as always, is appreciated.
Thanks

What seems to be happening in 2.1 is that you need to hold down the left button while selecting which option you want from the import button. It works, Squids explained it the other day and I have been importing successfully ever since.
To get a drum loop, or any sample, to play continuously while the key is depressed, the sample itself must have loop points set prior to importation into Sampletank. Such sample-level editing is not available in ST2.1, but is easily done in your 2-track editor.

Oh! I tried that repeatedly, waiting for the window to open. But I tried it again when you said to, and now I see the "Browse for folder" note on the taskbar (blind, I guess)! So that opens, of course. Thanks, Bassbaljg.

Regarding your advice about setting loop points before importing, I wasn't aware that you could actually do this to the actual .wav file independent of the software--i.e. Battery and Kontakt will do this, but AFAIK the data then becomes beholden to that software (i.e. a .nki file, etc.)
Are you (or anyone reading this) familiar with whether I can set the loop points in Cubase SX 3 for importing into ST 2.1, and if so, how?
I'm sorry if this is a really basic question, but I'd appreciate it if anyone could point me in the right direction.
Thanks

There can be some variables as to what apps recognize loop points set in what other app, but what has to happen is that the sample itself must be stored with the loop points as part of the file's information. Whether or not Cubase does this, I don't know, but anything like Sound Forge or Wavelab definitely will. There is a very good lite version of Wave Lab, as well as other good inexpensive editors on the market such as Acoustica and Goldwave, and even some free ones but I can't recall any names at this time. However, the first thing you need to do is consult your Cubase manual for details on audio editing and export.

Do you have 2.0 and 2.1 loaded and working fine? I didn't know you could have them both installed, I may go ahead and install 2.1. I was waiting for a bug fix release.
Thanks! Riley

Have no fear. I've got both ST 2.0 and ST 2.1 loaded, and they're both doing fine. As far as I can tell, they act independently of each other except that they share the same sample library. But you can even load both versions as VSTi's in the same project. They act as separate instruments.
Cheers.

I'll consult the manual first. If I hit a wall, I'll be back
Thanks for the help.

Thank GOD for the mouse wheel support in 2.1. I thought I was going to get carpal tunnel syndrome going through all the presets.
One other thing I noticed...the free combis I downloaded work in SampleTank 2.0 but don't work in 2.1. ARGH!!
Can we get mouse wheel support in Sonik Synth 2 also?
Is there a quick way in both of these to go through presets? I'd love to use up and down or left/right arrows on my qwerty keyboard to go through presets...
How about adding a ctrl-up/down arrow to go through Combi presets?

Hey TedRackley.
Where do you go to download the free combis?
Thanks! Riley
