My personal favorite is Harry Gregson-Williams; spy game, shrek, Kingdom of heaven.
Trevor Rabin and Hans Zimmer make some solid soundtracks as well.

Could the soundtrack from Pirates of the Caribbean (Klaus Badelt) be ripped more from Hans Zimmer/Gladiator?
A total muck up.

+1 For John Williams btw.
History is full of two kinds of people.

Badalamenti certainly, but there's also this guy called Jeff Beal that wrote the Carnivale soundtrack (an HBO series, don't know if you know it) and that soundtrack's unbelievably spooky and melancholic.

The Film Deadfall and the soundtrack of the live concert of Rodrigo’s Guitar Concerto

Post

MS - I'd like to know about the Rodrigo concert music.
Concerto Aranjuez is one of my favourite pieces of music. Are we talking about the same Rodrigo?

Post

Sonarman -

Yes the piece in the film is the 2nd movement of the Concerto Aranjuez and in the film whilst the piece is being played live in concert at a stately home the thief played by I think Michael Cain is breaking into the building. The tension in the scene is mixed superbly with the timing and tension of the solo guitar parts. I think the film was made in the 70’s but I cannot recall who was playing the guitar or which orchestra it was. I did have a old vinyl copy of the soundtrack but that has long since been mislaid.

MS - Just did a quick Google search on Deadfall. The movie site IMDB claims the guitar concerto was composed and played by Renata Tarrago (?) but another site called Moviegrooves says its by John Barry...?
