Ableton Live 5...

Post

Works for me with Tracktion and Audiophile 2496.
(I can have any combination of sounds from the PC and the ASIO)
It was not working with my previous card Echo Gina.

Post

What sound card do you have. The only problem I could see happening is if yer MP3 player used the ASIO driver. If it uses MS sound mapper or MME driver it shouldnt affect Sonar or anyother host that uses ASIO unless the driver is dodgy. I had that issue with my Terratec DMX 6 fire..

Post

It's all about your soundcard drivers being able to do a multiclient job.
In case they're not, the Winamp bridge won't help either, but I seem to remember a plugin being able to load MP3s. Personally, I just import them into a song file because that's allowing for the greatest flexibility and convenience.
There are 3 kinds of people:
Those who can do maths and those who can't.

yup, i figured that.

anyway, i re-scanned my plugins and added chainer to sonar. i loaded chainer in sonar and have mp3play plus 2 layered synths (on a different channel from mp3player) running thru it on less than 25% cpu. that may be nothing to some of you, but to me that's friggin awesome.

chainer kicks ass!

If you use Ableton Live, you will be able to easily have the rhythmic syncable things in your VST lock to the rhythm of the mp3. Arpeggios, LFO's delays, etc.
Do other hosts let you do this as well?

sync to an mp3??? oh yeah, that sounds cool, but all this thread is about is the jamming i do at home. i can't see spending $400 for that.

Post

With Chainer, xtal and your preferred VSTi synth you can do it easily.

i'll check out xtal again

Post

wikter,
so xtal guesses the tempo, but i don't see how to sync a synth to that. i need some details.

For me & my techno, sync is half the jam.
You can find Live for ~$250 if you look hard.
I tried to piece together a cheap solution at first, but it turned out to be impossible to get what I wanted till everything was in one application.
If I had known the number of hours and dollars I was gonna waste before I stumbled into Live, I woulda dropped the cash right up front.
