I'd like to try out some looper effects, preferably automatable by midi for operation through midi notes/CCs.

Ideally, it should perform similar to an Electrix Repeater, but this may not exist. Of course, I could track them all down and see which one suits me best (and I will, I'm not that lazy), but I'd like to hear about your experiences with loop effects or long delays with extensive midi control (and/or midi learn), pros/cons of different ones, etc..

Any other software that gives similar results?

Can't seem to download Loopy Llama, has anyone got it?

Try also Zone Mobius:

I can't get to Rekliner.com either. As far as I remember, Loopy Llama used an installer, so it likely won't be useful for someone to send it you. I've done a little bit of looping with both Mobius and Loopy Llama, both are very good. The learning curve is a bit steeper on Mobius. I've also had luck with Bidule and Audiomulch, both of which have native looping buffer modules.

I'm only a looping dabbler, but I like Elogoxa's Ellotronix XL 1.4. The GUI is very understandable. I don't believe it allows switching between loops, instead it emulates the classic Fripp/Eno gang of Revox tape recorders. http://www.uv.es/%7Eruizcan/p_vst.htm I used it recently when making the track "The Saddest Hour".

looopers off the top of my head -

tweakbench - yoink
whitenoisaudio - memory
forgotthedev - angstrolooper

hope that helps. i tend to use angstrolooper a lot, but not as much lately.

some of ioplong's plugs might be in that area of usage, if only remotely so, too.

Loopy Llama was only unavailable last night, I've played around with it now, and I think this will work well with energyXT. I can set up several instances connected to my single audio input or different VSTis, but with different record, reset, stop commands for each. And I can sync them, tap tempo and so on. Should do everything I want.

Mobius seems very powerful, but it will require some getting into and reading the manual.

I've tried Elottronix XL before, but maybe I'll look into it again. Does it allow punch in/punch out of the loop?

Post

I haven't used Elottronix Xl in a long time, but it designed more conceptually like a tape delay, so I don't think it allows punch in/out. I could be wrong, but I can't remember it being there.

Yes it does, but I haven't tried to midi contol it. Though there seems to be midi learn capability. You can hear me using Ellotronix with the punch in/out in "The Saddest Hour".

Just a warning, I downloaded the Mobius betas, and they both contained trojans. So I'd avoid this one!

I'll second whitenoiseaudio memory :> , gets triggered using midi notes as well.

Hey, sorry my site was down...it's not the first outage that's been reported. I should upgrade to a more reliable service, but the cheap stuff does me fine for now. I haven't had time to test on EnergyXT...what were your experiences? Also, there's a major upgrade out now.

You are probably using Avast. We believe this to be a false alarm
in Avast, no other virus scanner finds anything wrong. I have also
heard reports of the latest version of Avast suddenly finding "trojans"
in other commercial installers where nothing was wrong before.

I just tried Mobius. It is great fun. Thanks Jeff. There are a lot of options to explore.

Just need to get my kids to say some crazy stufff into a mic!

No virus reported on AVG.
