actually I was twice blessed with ignition...it forced me to buy wusikstation 1...now I'm debating between the big package and Manytone...so it opened a new avenue to me I never thought of before...

I just picked up the National Geographic "Katrina" edition at the supermarket. It is a really good read and the pictures are fantastic and horrific. All profits from that mag go to help Katrina victims.
I highly recommend it!

PROJECT STATUS:

This is an update to let everyone know where we stand right now.

We had some trouble paying, but that is sorted now and we will be paying Duplium on Monday.

We are also donating a majority of the money and will post the reciepts on the site when we get them. And of course, after all project fees are paid (Duplium, cdbaby, Resonance shipping fees), we will be donating all the leftover money and all new money that that is donated, in a timely manner. Those reciepts will also be posted.

The tracklist and artwork should be wrapped up by Monday as well. We will be posting the tracklist in this thread very soon. The artwork is looking VERY VERY cool!

I still have not recieved all the forms, so I will be talking to the missing peeps on an individual basis. Everyone needs to stay keen to their pms and emails so that we can see this through. If you have already mailed me the forms, but I haven't recieved them, then I have already contacted you via pm or email with instructions on what to do.

So, barring any crazy occurences, we will be shipping the cd masters on Monday and the cd pressing will begin when Duplium recieves them. They will take 10-12 days to produce and then they will be shipped to CDbaby, which will probably take 3-5 days. And then...check your mailboxes as they will be arriving soon.

We'll be helping a lot of people who are hurting right now, and we'll be helping them by way of our music!

Yes -- CDBaby will be shipping to all those who preordered and all subsequent orders. We of course had to pay additional shipping charges for this, but it's covered, so no worries.

So, the preorder effort worked out extremely well, and although we'll be posting a full accounting of what funds will go where soon, at this point we can say everything has been covered -- all bills paid -- with some respectable change left to begin sending funds to the charities.

We will be placing the preorders one by one through cdbaby, a monumental task at 168.
Of course, we are going to try and talk them into a bulk mailing list with necessary funds, but they haven't gotten back to me on that yet.

We discussed some other options, such as having an intermediate party(s) intercept them and ship them out, but it's really too much to ask of anyone, so we decided it would be best to let CDbaby handle all the shipping. So basically, all the preorders will become regular orders once CDbaby has the discs.

Hope that clears it up.

while we're being all sentimental here, I just wanna say....in 34 years I have had many doors opened to me that I have ignored..(yah know what I mean alex and freeztar...) but I have never been prouder of anything I've done musically ever. The song itself is a blessing as it's origin is one of the greatest things in my life...I thank Freeztar for starting this, the incredible work put in by Alex, mn, kovaks and the rest....I'm sorry I couldn't of added more then just a song. (though once it's available certain people in my life have said call me...)

I just want to say thanx and I am humbled to be included with some of the talented artists on this cd...thank you...

The most amazing is that this is put together by people from all over the world, that have never been together. This and all of the job is GREAT !!!
Althought I must confess that somehow I´m missing a foto of Lady J on the site or on the CD cover. Let´s put it straight : she looks a lot better than all of us ! (or am I just talking for myself ?)

Scott -- You might remember that you were one of the ones who actually helped to kick-start the Katrina project in the very beginning mate, as well as Emdot and Mr You™ -- back in the September Gossip thread -- two long months ago

Here's a litle stroll down memory lane...

1.) I'd rather see donations to charity than no prizes at all (since the prize goods are readily available to KVR), though this is probably logistically difficult. I doubt a 'no prizes contest' will stop disagreement and argument, but it may soften it a bit. I have no problem with this at all.

There is a way to do this, even with prizes, as I demonstrated with my 'won by a hair' win in June. I contacted the developer of the prize that I won (SOUP), and asked if he minded if I sold my license and gave the money to charity. Alex at Progress Audio was very cool about it.

I made an auction of sorts over at the marketplace (which was a pain - I'll just do it on e-Bay next time) and Knockman was the lucky winner.

Knockman picked out which charity he wanted the money to go to, I e-mailed him all the license info, and the charity got the money Knockman paid for the prize. Alex got some good PR on KVR as a result as well.

So, there is a way to do this if the developers are willing.

I think that's the way to go, though it seems a bit of work and a bit of a haphazard process if we'd want it to be a regular thing, so I wonder if there's a little SUG at KVR with some time that would be able to run such a thing? A group of guys with knowledge of all that e-bay and emailing/posting logistics stuff to help avoid undue errata/problems?

BTW ===> Where is the KVR "Katrina Vurtual Relief CD effort? Let's get on it -- I'm in it with my very best effort. Just lemme know!

@ Rockstar_not & Knockman, that was very Cool of you all. Just when I distress over the paucity of human decency left in the world, I see it thrives unharmed right in front of my nose. I have never donated as much to charity as I have this year, and I still don't think it's enough, but I can't help feeling somewhat ashamed and guilty for my excess fortune in light of the calamity that has befallen so many around me. Calamities whose roots may entwine and entangle me. And it's not like I'm some rich and powerful person, but I do have my family, my health and my home and a few prospects for earning money. I can offer something.

Exactly what I've been thinking while reading the last 3 pages of this thread. Why not take this tribute to Dr. Moog and turn it into just that? To me, a tribute to Dr. Moog would be worth buying. Coupling it with such a worthy cause, doubly so.

No voting? Shrug In my mind it no longer is a competition in that case. But if you make it a Hurricane Katrina Relief CD, then who needs a competition?

I'm in - but I don't think my stuff is worthy of the CD as I typically come in just a few clicks above 1/2-way up the list.

I don't know that KVRians represent the buying public, but I have to take in consideration the fact that I consistently score in this portion of the list, whilst others like yourself, Beardedone, Barnadine, DT, Knockman, utm, guitarjeff, et. al. seem to be consistently farther up (and for good reason).

I think we would eventually have to have some kind of a vote to determine final tracks to fit onto the CD. 74min / 4 min/track = 17 or 18 tracks and a little bit of fade time in between.

Perhaps mashup-extraordinaire Techbot could do the assemblage of songs into one long unbroken moogfest for charity.

For Ixox sake, just because you get out of our unknown, unheard of, mainly ignored bodgey little weeny KVR contest in an obscure corner of the galaxy at number 32 or whatever doesn't mean your songs are bad! At least 90% of the contest entries are awesome -- listen to them all on Techbot or Markleford radio -- hear them in segue and you'll think you're listening to the Billboard T-50 Countdown! They're awesome! Shit!

I live just outside of Atlanta, and all the gas stations are out. Eyeing my bike more closely now, but it would be a vast change. Maybe for the better, but just the fact that something hundreds of miles away is affecting me heavily here is a scary reality. How fragile our "neo-ecosystem" is?? I find solace here at Kvr and also see the potential for others here to feed communities, in one way or another.

So far, this month's offerings are great flagstones of a fruitful month.

and the rest is 200 plus pages of history, with two amazing CDs off to the duplicator and a hell of a website...
