At least they send the reg code quickly. Got the VST thanks again.

And there you have it. Finally the answer I was looking for. Thanks a lot.cymatics wrote:I own Sonitus:Gate. The answer to your question is yes... you get the DX & VST version when buying the individual plugs.
It is a shame when someone has to use the knowledge of people outside an organisation to buy one of their products. Maybe they have adopted the NI way of doing things. As long as KVR is here to pick up the pieces and provide the extra support and knowledge about these companies, I guess they'll have what they need to continue being shithouse at customer support.
Anyway, off to buy from these ignorant "professionals".
Funny, when I have a problem/question with a product, it honestly never occurs to me to email their tech support. I always post at the user forum, and get an answer from another user or even a company employee usually within a short time - sometimes even a few minutes! That really has been my experience, and I've gotten spoiled that way.
I'm not making excuses for Cakewalk - just saying I've been a Cake/Sonar user for three years and have never had to email them. The user forum is the way to go.
Yeah, it shouldn't be that way, but it works.
Try it and see...

you're one of the few lucky ones who got it quickly. when i upgraded i had to call them several times over a week's period after getting the cd-rom. they kept telling me you'll get it in your email. finally on the 3rd or 4th time they gave it to me over the phone. and i never did get it in my email (which doesn't sort spam).morelia wrote:At least they send the reg code quickly. why should a customer have to go through that b.s. this has got to be the most inane protection policy ever. just plain stupid!

Hmm. So only "a few lucky ones" got their reg codes promptly, but the other thousands of users had to go through what you went through. Sure.
Probably the other way around, don't you think?
You won't see this at all (we've all been there - pissed to the point of blindness), but really, if you stick with them, and go through this the next time, it will work properly.
And getting a reg code through email is nothing. In fact, you're lucky if that's all you have to do. With some companies, that's only part one of three (or four or five) steps, and by the end, you're swearing you'll never buy another product from them ever... and then the group buy the next month pulls you right in.
Point is, most of the stuff you're complaining about is par for the course here.
Welcome to the world of DAW recording!

gimme a break. i just know from the cakewalk forum that a lot of peeps went thru similar. and i don't care that it's par, it's lousy service. you accept it, i don't. it doesn't have to be the norm. btw, i was in a group buy here with none of this.flugel45 wrote: Hmm. I didn't say I accepted it. I'm still on Sonar v4 which only has a serial number. I was talking about other companies which are much worse with their copy protection.politcat wrote:...gimme a break. i just know from the cakewalk forum that a lot of peeps went thru similar. and i don't care that it's par, it's lousy service. you accept it, i don't. it doesn't have to be the norm. btw, i was in a group buy here with none of this.
If you don't believe me (and it seems you don't), do a search here on "copy protection" and get a broader, more accurate perspective than those of your "peeps" over at the Cakewalk forum.

FWIW, I ordered my SONAR 5 upgrade and Dimension Pro just now (after seeing both at the Remix Hotel last week I just had to have them!) and I received the reg codes in less than 10 minutes. I suppose I’ll have to ‘fess up to being a fan boy here, but Cake has been very good to me. Like flugel45, I’ve always managed to get my problems resolved through the forums though and never needed any formal support. The reps I’ve met (Mike Praeger and Brandon Ryan) are very professional and helpful. And nice guys.
At least the BBB hasn’t flunked them.
No company is perfect all of the time but these guys do seem to give it a good try. Things are always going to go wrong with both software internals and support communications. On the bright side though, even if you had to go through some pain to get the reg code it’s good for life. Contrast that with a C/R vendor where you have to prove you worthiness, permanently disable your old DAW, sacrifice a virgin, etc. each and ever time you do an install. Which is still better than sticking a dongle up you DAW’s butt like an enema….anyway I digress.
