Is 11ms latency too much?

That's as far as I can get with ASIO4all. I really want to buy a keyboard just so I don't have to keep plugging everything in FL with my damn mouse. I was gonna get the keystation because it offers velocity sensitive, semi weighted keys. It will do for now, though I plan to buy a triton in a few months. I need to know if 11ms will be too much to deal with.

I find 11ms to be fine, although I did spend some time once trying to reduce it. Can you not adjust your buffers in the ASIO control panel?

11ms is quite bearable. You will only start noticing this delay @ > 20ms probably. Still latency = bad in general, but remember most apps render with 0ms latency, so it only affects live stuff really

I was merely just concerned with in studio production. I'm not a gigging type person so anything anyone hears of mine comes rendered straight out of the PC, not live show or anything. I haven't really messed with the ASIO4all. Is there something I could do to try and reduce it even more in the ASIO4all panel?

Seems to be dependant on your tollerance for latency, and your setup. On my rig, 11ms drives me up a wall. I need 6ms. I think it probably has a lot to do with my MIDI interface introducing too much delay over USB.

ASIO4all is a workaround soln'. It is simply a wrapper for WDM. Your better bet is finding true ASIO drivers or find a good ASIO compatible audiocard

11ms is awfully good for a board that doesn't have it's own ASIO drivers, don't you think? Not that it's impossible to get more with ASIO4ALL, but it's not an awful lot of latency.

Besides, if you don't currently have a keyboard, latency isn't that big of a deal anyway. I made songs using the DirectX driver at ~90ms latency without noticing a thing when I was exclusively mousing stuff in.

Messed with the hardware buffer thing like someone previously said. I opened up FL and played around under 9ms, and magically no skips no pops nothing but clean sound. I couldn't do that before I mnessed with it, if I dropped it below 11 it started poping and it sounded lofi.

By the way, since this keyboard plugs into the USB post, how much more latency should I expect from that if any?

What card are you using NO name? if its soundblaster live you can use the kx drivers to get around 5ms if you need it,kind of a pain to set up though

Oh boy, my soundcard isn't even a soundblaster. The one on this pc is a Cmedia. It's something custom computer builders throw in for cheap. I've always played around in FL using my computers keyboard, and I mean if I could hear the latency without recording then i'd assume i'm in good shape because I've never noticed any delay between me pressing keys and a sound playing. When I try to record with it though I did get a litttle bit, but now when I do it I don't hear any delay from when I pressed the keys whatsoever.

I just tried out ASIO4ALL on my Thinkpad, with its internal sound, using energyXT and the Minimonsta demo (wanted something CPU intensive). I got the buffer all the way down to 64 samples, and it seems to work fine. I can't hear any latency, and there's no audible artifacting.
