Seems like the Hit Kit is no longer available, so I'm going to suggest the Magix package. EDIT - Actually Amazon do still stock it.

I picked up a couple of copies of the HitKit in our local PDSA charity shop for about £4 each (a couple of cheap half-decent mics never go amiss).
I wouldn't bother with the HitKit myself unless you need a version of Logic for Mac, or you particularly want the Steve Levine loop kits that came with it. Despite the hype, the booklet doesn't tell you anything that you couldn't figure out from a couple of hours' browsing this forum or by buying one of the music tech magazines. You can't use 3rd-party VST FX and instruments with it, and the bundled FX and routing options are much more limited than very early versions of Magix Midi Studio. I also doubt there's any serious support for the HitKit if you have problems (though IIRC, the packaging did promise more loops would be available on a website at some point).
If you really want the Logic interface for a low price (and it's to be used on PC), I'd look out for cheap versions of Music Studio 2004 or 2005 on Amazon or somewhere like that (I wouldn't bother with the earlier versions if starting out - the two later ones are far superior in a number of ways). Or if you/your friend feel like splashing out, the latest version (11/2006) is now being sold at just under £50. Your friend could get support at the Magix User Board (it's quite a child-friendly forum - trolls don't last, the language and conduct are pretty fragrant most of the time, and as a mod there, I'd do my best to make sure she got whatever help she needed). If she does go the Magix route, I'd recommend she use it on a computer with a decent soundcard - mobo AC97 chips can be temperamental with the Midi Studio program (Audio Studio seems to cope with just about anything), though some XP users do get stable results with the ASIO4ALL drivers.
You'll have gathered from the above that I have a couple of copies of the HitKit disks and manual stashed somewhere waiting for a useful purpose, so if you're really stuck on getting it, DON'T give any money to Amazon! - I'm sure I could be persuaded to slip them in the post to you. She wouldn't have the dynamic mic that came bundled (or the fancy packaging), but that's no great loss, quite frankly. Feel free to PM me if you want a copy. Same goes for anyone else who wants them, but you get first dibs.
