I gave up waiting for Amplitube 2 and went ahead and decided to try out the just released Line 6 TonePort UX2, for my amp sim needs.
Boy, am I glad I did! I not only got a kick ass guitar amp/fx modeler(think soundwise, PODxt & Vetta), bass amp/fx modeler (think BassPODxt)and a pre-amp multi-modeler (think API512c,Neve 1073,Avalon Vt737), but a nice front-end for my laptop DAW, that includes a 24bit audio device with low latency ASIO drivers (down to 128samples-2.9msec for playing softsynths) for recording using the exact same A/D converters(AKM4528), as the Echo MIA. Along with, (2) XLR mic pres with 48v phantom power, (2)Instrument inputs, stereo Line inputs, stereo monitor input, S/PDIF stereo out, stereo analog output, assignable VU meters (that's right), it has what's called "ToneDirect Monitoring", whereas you can record through the TonePorts GearBox amps/fx software, in realtime, with virtually no latency, into your DAW software, irrespective, of the DAW latency. No need to use CPU intensive input monitoring or low latencies, in your DAW.
Out of the box, it comes with (16) amps/(24) spkr cabs/(24) stomp box studio FX for guitar & bass, plus (6) preamps models and (4)preamp fx. You can easily expand this with available Model Packs, for additional amps & fx, via download right into your TonePort. You can add the "Power" Model Pack (additional $99) to give you the full equivalant of a PODxt.
I have only had it a few days, but I know I won't be returning it. It is the best $199 bucks I have spent in a long time. This thing simply ROCKS!

Anyway it might be worth a look:
